CausalityLabs is the an Art collective project of Galo Moncayo-Asan and Andy Holtin. Working together on performative and interactive objects and Installation art, they create new experiences from the world's moveable and makeable parts. CausalityLabs[1], create works that explore the nature of the world through a kind of mechanical theatre with humor and mimicry. Their collective works dig into materials and events to get at our notions of meaning, sequence and cause and effect. Holtin is a professor of sculpture at American University. Moncayo is currently a member of the Studio Hadid master class at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna, Austria.

CausalityLabs pursues an understanding of consciousness through the scrutiny of the mechanisms that render experience knowable and make meaning possible. In direct attention to these mechanisms, whether physical, technical, conceptual, linguistic, or otherwise, these investigations revel in the ambiguities and vagaries of the assumptions that frame our experience. By producing and engaging with performative objects and phenomena an awareness of sequence, of cause and effect, is heightened, though it is also convoluted and challenged. Our own attention, the intervals of memory, and the mediated connection to the material of our world become both the objects and means of a curiosity carried out in the theater of making and doing, watching and listening.

The Shapes of Sound and Silence by Erika Knudson[edit]

Moncayo makes fanciful machines that create patterns of sound and line, artistic automatons that play with our expectations and preconceptions about how to interact with and view art. A recent work, short-lived moments, is an example of his experimental creative process. [3]
