Union Demands[edit source]

According to CUPE Local 3903 Graduate Students and Contract Faculty Staff have been without a contract since August 31,2017. There are 4 distinct demands:

1. Increased Job Security for Contract Faculty

1. Funding Protection for Teaching Assistants

1. Reversal of Over 800 Job Cuts

1. Workplace Accessibility and Equity

Increased Job Security for Contract Faculty[edit source]

CUPE Local 3903 asserts that Contract Faculty have to re-apply for their jobs each year and contracts are routinely awarded days before the start of class. York University has been accused of workforce casualization.  

York University's response is that their offer of employment is on par with other Universities thoroughout the GTA. They have not offered a counter offer regarding the confirmation of employment for Contract Faculty.

Funding Protection for Teaching Assistants[edit source]

York University has agreed to an annual salary raise, academic supports as well as vacation pay increases. However CUPE Local 3903 asserts that the agreement proposed by York University simply allows for increased claw back the Teaching Assistants earn from other sources.
