Grey Matters: Teaching The Way The Brain Learns is a 2017 educational documentary film, written and directed by Ramona Persaud. Premiered[1] at the Johns Hopkins School of Education in 2017, the film covers how three teachers- Justin Holbrook, Jeremy Mettler, and Vicky Krug, resort to leveraging brain science[2] to break through the boredom and disinterest of their students.

Synopsis[edit]

Exploring the personal journeys that led three teachers to use a neuroscience-based teaching model, and showing that model in action within their locales and student age brackets (Roland Park Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore, Maryland; a high school in upstate New York, and a community college in Western Pennsylvania), Grey Matters touches on the core concepts of brain-based education and the intimacy with which some students and teachers respond to it. The film elaborates on practical application of the Brain-Targeted Teaching Model. This model, developed by a Baltimore educator in one of the highest-performing schools in the city[3], demonstrates a complete paradigm shift in education, which has drawn increased attention globally since Roland Park's former principal, Mariale Hardiman, created it more than a decade ago[4].
