Cecep Arif Rahman (born August 18,1972) is a teacher, athlete, teacher of martial arts and Indonesian actor. Born in Garut, West Java, Cecep is a martial arts artist from the Panglipur Garut college. His career in martial arts took him to perform in the French martial festival Bercy Festival des Arts Martiaux from 2000 to 2008. His first cinematic performance was for the film The Raid 2: Rascal.


Early life[edit]

Cecep Arif Rahman grew up at the foot of Mount Galunggung, Garut. The story of his grandfather who was a martial arts figure encouraged him to learn martial arts since graduating from high school. In 1986, he started studying Pencak silat at Panglipur Galih, Garut. Cecep taught silat since 1991 after graduating teacher education, he went to Bandung to study silat with Eni Rukmini Sekar Ningrat, while living in Bandung he was also introduced to several other martial arts teachers. In 1994, he won first place at the International Pencak Silat Championships in Thailand. In 2003, Cecep started teaching silat at a state primary school in Garut, after five years of teachings he was promoted to a civil servant and became an grade school academics teacher in 2008. He also taught at the Islamic middle school SMP IT Nurul Islam, wich was founded by his parents. Cecep is currently the leader of the Pencak Silat Panglipur School[1] and previously lead the Himpunan Pencak Silat (HPS) Panglipur.[2] He also regularly attends the Bercy martial festival in Paris and is often invited to fill in martial arts workshops in France, Italy, England, Russia, and the United States.

Acting Career[edit]

In 2008, Cecep was contacted by Iko Uwais to assist him in his first film Merantau but at that time he had just been appointed as a civil servant and refused.

In 2013, Cecep was again contacted by Iko Uwais for the film The Raid 2: Rascal, for his wielding of the karambit, he was also favoured by a recommendation from fellow indonesian martial artist Yayan Ruhian. His performance as "The Assassin" gave him recognition in international stunting circles leading him to work in international productions, not only as a performer but also as a choreographer and a stylist. In 2015, Cecep with Yayan Ruhian and Iko Uwais were involved in starring in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, starring as the Kanjiklub. In 2019, his most notable role was in John Wick Chapter 3, where he fought alongside Yayan Ruhian, against Keanu Reeves.

Despite his acting sucesses, Cecep continues to teach at his hometown of Garut.[2]
