Matt Whitfield (Actor and Broadcaster)[edit]

Matt Whitfield is a British actor and broadcaster best known for playing ‘Stallion’, the flamboyant commentator and on-screen personality for British wrestling, providing analysis and insight on the matches and situations in the ring at Pro Championship Wrestling (PCW). With a keen eye, a distinctive Geordie accent, sharp wit and a lifetime love of professional wrestling he works hard to become the pre-eminent broadcaster of British wrestling.

Matt can be seen in his role as Stallion can be seen (and heard) on television in a weekly show on Sky Channel 191 Showcase TV. He has also appeared on TV for TNT Wrestling and the Youtube channel for Shield Pro Wrestling.

Professional Wrestling Career[edit]

In the mid 2000's Matt took up wrestling training, first with the FWA in Portsmouth where he got a taste for the sport and then closer to home in Newcastle with WZW, crediting head trainer Dave Carbon with drilling the basics into him which allowed him to further his training with the XWA in Morecambe and becoming Stallion. Sadly, an injury cut short a promising wrestling career but XWA owner and well known British wrestling veteran Greg Lambert wanted to keep him on as the manager for Rockstar Spud (Drake Maverick) and his entourage that included one half of the Grizzled Young Veterans, James Drake.

Matt took Stallion from the manager's role to the broadcasting booth where he would provide analysis to the shows and matches for DVD releases. Sadly, the XWA closed it's doors in 2012 and Stallion took a little hiatus, which tied in with his law studies.

In 2013 he was approached by PCW promoter Steven Fludder to partner his old boss Greg Lambert on commentary, a very successful partnership which has lasted over a decade and has commentated on so many UK and international stars. Greg and Stallion have provided commentary on some historical events such as the first ever UK wrestling Pay-Per-View and the first ever Pride wrestling show in the UK.[1] BBC

In 2014 he and Greg provided the commentary on the Supershow of Honor, a combined show that pitted wrestlers from both PCW and Ring of Honor against each other[2].

In 2017 Matt added another dimension to the Stallion character by showing up to a TV show with the "Pro Wrestling Commentary Championship", a title he claims to have won in a tournament in Rio de Janeiro. The fine looking title belt is gold plates on a blue leather strap.

Although he has had several broadcasting partners, Lambert has been his most regular partner and the pair have commentated on very nearly all of the PCW shows[3].

In 2019 Fight Network UK has announced that it will air a brand new weekly episodic PCW British wrestling show every Saturday at 9:00pm on Sky channel 192 and Freesat channel 161.

The first TV tapings took place in PCW’s home, the legendary Blackpool Tower Circus, on Feb.16 and Feb. 17, 2019. These tapings featured some of the very best independent wrestling talent from all over the world, including PCW roster members Iestyn Rees, Sugar Dunkerton, Joey Hayes, Danny Hope, Tel Banham and Nightshade, as well as guest stars MJF, Tom Lawlor and Jeff Cobb[4].

Although he has on occasion been an active wrestler in his career, wrestling in the XWA, Alpha Omega Wrestling and PCW, he is semi-retired and will only agree to wrestle if it elevates someone else or furthers a story on the show, otherwise he is more than happy to share his wit and knowledge from under the broadcasting headset.

Acting[edit]

Outside of wrestling Matt was always a keen actor and in 2021 saw the opportunity to take up acting full time so enrolled with Mark Pegg's Acting Academy and accepted into Spotlight that same year.

In his amateur days Matt had starred in productions of Blood Brothers, Stags and Hens, A Slice of Saturday Night as well as Jack and the Beanstalk.

In July and August 2022 he played the role of Roman Centurion Obnoctius Maximus in Off The Wall, a play by Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, directed by Jake Smith, produced by The Customs House and performed on-site at Arbeia Roman Fort [5][6][7].

He is due to play the part of Carter in a TV pilot Vortex produced by Runestone Pictures in 2023.

Early and Personal Life[edit]

Matt Whitfield was born in Newcastle upon Tyne on 30 April 1976, which he jokingly refers to as "April Genius's Day" since it stands to reason that if April 1 is April Fool's Day, the end of the month must therefore be for the geniuses. He attended West Lane School in Winlaton for his primary education and Blaydon Comprehensive for secondary school, staying on until Sixth Form and becoming Head Boy alongside fellow actor Jill Dellow who was Head Girl.

After getting through school with a handful of GCSEs and A levels in History and General Studies, Matt entered the world of work at age 18 at B.T, where he spent several years in customer service. Whilst attaining his Law Degree from Northumbria University in 2013, he had transferred to HR where he employed his newly found law knowledge.

Matt built his own PC during lockdown, enjoys Sci-Fi and Fantasy such as The Witcher and Warhammer, reading Terry Pratchett, Robert Rankin and Arthur Conan Doyle, when he gets the time, watching Newcastle United on the television.

Matt lives with his partner and their Staffy in South Shields.
