The PCL family of companies is the largest general contracting organization in Canada and the sixth largest in the US. The organization is active in the commercial, institutional, multi-family residential, heavy industrial and civil construction sectors. The company's North American headquarters are located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. PCL's US head office is located in Denver, Colorado.

PCL is made up of a family of independent operating companies. The organization is privately owned by its employees.

History[edit]

PCL began operations in 1906, as E.E. Poole Contractors, founded by Ernest Poole of Stoughton, Saskatchewan. In 1913, Ernest Poole renamed the company to Poole Construction Company Limited and in 1932 the company was moved to its current corporate headquarters in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1975 PCL opened its US head office in Denver, Colorado. Ernest Poole's sons, John and George, sold the company to their employees in 1977. In 1978, Poole Construction Company Limited became PCL Construction Limited.
