The National Centre for Geographic Resources & Analysis in Primary Health Care (GRAPHC)[1] is a resource and research centre in the Research School of Population Health, College of Medicine, Biology and Environment at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia. GRAPHC was established in 2011 to enhance the capacity of primary health by using geographically based methods, data and mapping platforms to support research into primary health care.

The services are primarily intended to support academic health researchers, health administrators and policy makers.

Services[edit]

Web-based Mapping[edit]

HealthLandscapes Australia is a web based map visualisation application with curated research, demographic & socio-economic map data, selectable layers and analysis tools.

Spatial Health Data Services[edit]

GRAPHC provides numerous online data services that facilitate spatial interpretation of health and social demographic data.[2] Data repository contains spatially attributed health related data include:

GRAPHC assist researchers to engage spatial analyses, geoprocessing and in the use of any geographically based tools, methods and data.

Location Attribution Services[edit]

The G-Tag System, provides a means for researchers to link relevant health data to areas, in ways that mean that they can work with spatially attributed health data without compromising privacy and confidentiality.[10]

Research[edit]

GRAPHC undertake research projects:

  • Un-Diagnosed Diabetes: Using GP practice level data to explore levels of undiagnosed diabetes and the location to areas with high densities of undiagnosed diabetes to enable targeting of preventative services.[11]
  • Creating Primary Care Service Areas: Creating areas which reflect GP catchment areas (known as Primary Care Service Areas) in NSW to enable analysis of GP activity to be based on real patient flows rather than arbitrary historical boundaries.[12]
  • Socioeconomic inequalities in health care use, quality of care & outcomes in primary healthcare:[13]
  • Disentangling individuals, context and location in order to identify avenues for achieving health equity. How do we identify not only what, but where inequity exists and why it exists, such that we can deliver services to reduce gaps?[14], [15], [16]
  • Supportive Research: GRAPHC actively engage with researchers nationally, supporting a variety of activities including: sampling methods, Geo-attribution, workforce analysis, medical student mapping, spatial aggregation and visualisation and mapping for reports and journals.

Projects & Collaborations[edit]

GRAPHC have provided input, resources, services, mapping solutions with and for the following projects and collaborations:
