BBC Radio 1 is a national radio station started by the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1967. It has had dozens of DJs since its inception, broadly split between hosting mainstream shows in the daytime, and specialist shows in the evening.

Edith Bowman 1300-1600 Weekdays 29 March 1993 Edith started with Colin Murray on his weekend morning show before the pair moved to afternoons. Murray moved to an evening specialist show in 2006, leaving Bowman the sole host of the afternoon slot
Fearne Cotton 1600-1900 Weekends September 2005 Cotton started by hosting Friday early breakfast with television co-host Reggie Yates. This show subsequently moved to weekend breakfast in 2006, and in October 2007, Cotton and Yates took over the chart show on a Sunday, and a new request show on a Saturday.
Sara Cox 1000-1300 Weekdays 1999 Sara started by co-hosting Saturday lunchtime with Emma B, and soon moved to launching the Sunday Surgery. In 2000, Cox moved to host the breakfast show. At the end of 2003, she was moved from the breakfast show to 'drivetime'. After going on maternity leave, she returned to a weekend afternoon slot, and then took a second materneity break in 2008, returning to cover Jo Whiley's show on weekday mornings.
Nick Grimshaw 1900-2200 Sunday 2008 Nick Grimshaw presents BBC Switch, which runs across both Radio 1 and BBC television programing, and is focused on the youth strand. He also presents weekend breakfast.
Greg James 0400-0630 Weekdays 15 October 2007 Greg James' first show in Radio 1 was a one off 1 hour show as a prize for winning 'best male presenter' at the Student Radio Awards. Following the success of this show, he presented early breakfast covering for then incumbent JK and Joel. Following the departure of JK and Joel, Greg James became permanent in October 2007.
Vernon Kay 1000-1300 Saturdays January 2004 Vernon, already a successful television presenter, first joined Radio 1 presenting a Sunday entertainment show, but only 3 months after starting took over the weekend late morning show on weekends, presenting 10-1 on Saturday and Sundays. In October 2007, with the arrival of Dick and Dom to the station, this was reduced to Saturday only, which is a slot he still maintains. He has also formed part of the maternity cover rosta filling in for Edith Bowman on maternity leave.
Annie Mac 2100-2300 Friday and 1900-2200 Sunday Joined Annie Mac is one of only 2 DJs on the current Radio 1 line up to present both a specialist and mainstream show. On the mainstream schedule, she works on BBC Switch with Nick Grimshaw on a Saturday lunchtime. She also hosts Annie Mac's Mash Up on a Friday night, as part of the specilaist dance music line up.
Scott Mills 1600-1900 Weekdays 1998 Mills was brought to Radio 1 in 1998 to present the easrly breakfast show, and ran in this slot for nearly 6 years, before moving to weeknd afternoons in January 2004. Only 6 months later, in July, Mills moved to maternity cover for Sara Cox on weekday drivetime. His success led to being kept on in this slot, with Sara Cox returning to weekend shows after maternity leave. Scott also provides the regular holiday cover for Chris Moyles on the breakfast show.
Chris Moyles 0630-1000 Weekdays 28 July 1997 Moyles started on the early breakfast show in 1997, although within a year was moved to Saturday breakfast and then Saturday mid-morning. In October 1998, Moyles moved to afternoon drivetime,, where he remained for 5 years. In January 2004, he swopped time slots with Sara Cox, taking over the breakfast show.
Nihal 1300-1600 Weekends 2002 Nihal presents both a specialist and mainstream show on the station, having started in 2002 on his specialist show with colleague Bobby Friction. In 2007, he also took over the weekend breakfast show, and in September 2008 moved to the current slot of weekend afternoons.
Jo Whiley 1000-1300 Weekdays (Maternity Leave) September 1993 Whiley joined the station on the specialist rosta, working with Steve Lamacq on an evening alternative show. Her first solo show was a short lived Saturday afternoon show in 1995. In 1997, she was once again given a chance at a solo show, and she left the evening show to start presenting rhe weekday lunchtime show. She is currently on maternity leave, being covered by a nubmer of other DJs.

Barry Alldis 1967-1975[1] Alldis wroked for Radio Luxemborg, before moving to the UK in 1966 and working on the BBC Light Programme (predecessor to Radio 2) before presenting a number of radio one shows from launch in 1967, until returning to Radio Luxemborg in 1975.[2] Died 1982[2]
Simon Bates 1976-1993[1] Bates was a presenter on Radio 2 from 1974 to 1967 before moving to Radio 1 to take the Sunday morning slot, before moving to weekday mid-morning show for a 16 year run. The show reached a peak listenership of over 11m and included famous features including 'Our Tune'. Simon quite Radio 1 in 1993.[3] Presenting on Classic FM[3]
Tony Blackburn 1967-1984[1] Tony Blackburn started his career on pirate Radio Caroline, moving to Radio London in 1966, and starting presenting on the BBC Light Programme (predecessor to Radio 2) in 1967, quickly auditioning for the new Radio 1. Blackburn was the first DJ heard on Radio 1, playing 'Flowers in the Rain' to open the new station with the breakfast show. In 1973 he moved from Breakfast to mid-mornings and in 1977 moved to an afternoon show. In 1980, Blackburn finished his last daily show, but continued to present a special 'Junior Choice' show and the top 40 countdown until 1984.[4] Presenting on BBC London 94.9, kmfm and 102.2 Smooth Radio[4]
Jakki Brambles 1988-1993[1] Jakki joined Radio 1 as the first female broadcaster on a daytime slot, initially on the early evening show, moving to Drivetime and finally to the lunchtime show, before leaving to work in San Francisco in 1994.
