Yair Schindel (Hebrew: יאיר שינדל; born 1975) is an Israeli venture capital and HealthTech entrepreneur. He is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of aMoon Fund, a global investment firm focused on innovative healthcare and life science ventures. In 2015, Schindel was chosen by The Marker, a leading Israeli financial magazine, as one of Israel's 100 Most Influential People. [1]
Early life and Education[edit]
Yair Schindel attended Ben Gurion University from 1993-1999, earning his BSc in Health Sciences and his MD from the University’s Goldman Medical School. Schindel later attended Harvard Business School, graduating with his MBA in 2007.[2]
Military Service[edit]
Schindel joined the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) straight out of medical school in 1999. He became a Combat Medical Officer in the Golani Brigade Special Forces Unit, EGOZ. Schindel later joined the IDF’s Navy Seals, known as Shayetet 13, and subsequently became the Chief Medical Officer (Major) for the unit. During his service Schindel participated in dozens of special operations,[3][4] and in 2003 he received the Admiral's Valor Citation (Silver Star) for saving the life of a wounded teammate while under fire.[3]
Business Career[edit]
Schindel is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of aMoon Fund, the largest HealthTech and Life Sciences venture capital fund in Israel,[5] with over $1B under management. [6]
Schindel co-founded aMoon in 2016[7] alongside Marius Nacht, Co-founder and Chairman of cybersecurity Check Point Software Technologies. [8]
Prior to aMoon, Schindel served as the founding CEO of the National Digital Bureau, an Israeli government agency responsible for digitizing governmental services and stimulating economic growth.[3] From 2014-2016, Schindel spearheaded a national strategy for the integration of innovative digital technologies into the government’s day-to-day operations.[9]
Between 2013-2014 Schindel served as the CEO of Start-Up Nation Central (SNC), a Tel Aviv-based non-profit organization that facilitates collaboration between Israeli tech companies and global partners and investors.[3]
From 2006-2012, Schindel joined OmniGuide, a Boston based medical device company, as the Vice President of International Sales and Marketing.[10] In 2012, Yair moved back to Israel and was involved in the establishment of two other companies: Medisafe Project Ltd., which develops a mobile drug compliance app,[11] and Zebra Medical Vision Ltd., a medical imaging and analytics company.[12]
Schindel is the Founder of the MAOZ Network, an NGO focused on building collaboration between Israel’s most influential leaders in the private, social, and public sector,[13] as well as the Co-Founder and Chairman of the 8400 Health Network, an organization that is building a coalition of public, private, and nonprofit sector leaders to build a national HealthTech growth engine in Israel.[14]
