[edit]
  • Offeror: Ottawa4ever (talk)
  • Date offered: XX:XX, XX XXX 20XX (UTC)
  • Request: The task; use any automated program (any program/script such as huggle, Wikipedia:STiki, WP:TWINKLE for example) and perform 5000 instances of vandalism reduction edits (including warnings of users and reversions of unconstructive edits). For example reverting a disruptive edit and subsequently warning the user, will count as 2 edits towards this challenge. To spice this challenge up; you are not allowed any mistakes, Rollbacks count as one edit, And the 5000 edits must be done within a cycle of one paticular month. A qualified mistake in this instance will be defined as a legitimate complaint issued by another user seperate from yourself. A mistake will not count if the complaint issued by the disruptive user is unwarrented. Those interested in the award should state the day that they are beginning and ending for this challenge. Winners of previous O4E challenges are welcome to particiapte.

  • Limit on rewards: 1 per person

RFA Voting History and Criteria

[edit]

I normally default to support if the candidate is a beneficial net positive to the project Wikipedia:Net positive. I do have a few criteria which will sway me to change my position to neutral or in very extreme cases; Oppose (though this is rare).

RFA Questions Asked

[edit]

A list of compiled questions I asked a RFa. These questions are designed to be everyday questions i would seek an admin for help on. There are some essential policy issues here to keep in mind, but theres also a personality aspect to each question. About half and half. All questions are related to some sort of experience or observation i have made using wikipedia. Currently My standard system does not include asking these questions

1.This question relates to images. As a user it would be the type of question i would ask an admin. Consider this situation; An image has been posted on the talk page an article under the context of wether it should be included in the main article. The image is defined as being the own work of the creator taken in a public place. There is no indication whether those on the image have given their permission to be in the photo. The image features several people in embarassing revealing and inappropriate situations. Consensus on the talk page is that the image has no place in the article and is inappropriate. An individual contacts you and feels uncomfortable with leaving the image on the talk page and would like to remove it. Under what context would you remove the image, would you remove the image?, and if not why? Please cite any relevant policies that you think are necessary, If the question is unclear in any way please feel free to state any assumptions

2.This question conserns Vandilism. An IP editor frequently posts a picture of a kitten on many users pages and appears to be spamming, and hasnt stopped. In fact all of his/her edits are of this picture being posted on user pages. Would you consider blocking this user?and if so for how long? would your answer be any different if the user were editing from an account?

3.This question conserns 3RR. new user (IP editor with little editing history) comes to wikipedia and begins editing one specific article. The editor subsequently gets into an edit war with more experienced editors. How would you handle the IP editor if they were reported for 3RR assuming they did not recieve any warnings on their talk page? Would your answer be any different if the editor recieved warnings about 3RR on their talk page? thanks for your time

4.This question conserns conflict of interest. If a wikipedia page were made a a home page for a popular product (Ie an aggressive marketing campaign changes their website to redirect to wikipedias stub article). Under what conditions would you protect the page? Thanks

5. My question concerns stress. A user I encountered in the past had very disruptive behaviour and i would like to ask how you as an admin would respond to him. The scenario is this: He used multiple accounts on a computer system which had a rotating 'dynamic' IP . He had been clearly socking with multiple accounts and IP addresses. He displays subsequent disruptive edit diffs on his user page(s) (After one account is blocked he basically creates another). Subsequently he taunts admins that they cant catch him. My big question here is how would you react to a user like this (especially if he targets you to taunt)? and what would be your course of action? This question may not be worded best so if you need me to clarify anything id be happy to.

6. This question conserns conflict of interest. An article has been nominated for deletion under Conflict of interest. On the talk page of the aricle the user had identified himself with personal information regarding his name and position at a company. He has only edited this article as well. During the AFD debate he asks on the talk page to remove his Personal ID in the threads and information identifying him. How do you handle this?

7.This question is meant to be a AIV scenario; A newly created account (User A) posts an incidence of which is percieved as vandalism and is subsequently warned against doing so by a User B. User A subsequently removes the warning from his/her talk page. And another user, C (which is an IP with no edits until now) places the warning back. User A removes the warning again and C places it back. This repeats until User A has removed the warning a total of 3 times. User B (not C) subsequently reports User A for vandalsim on AIV. Being on AIV how would you handle this. If any thing is unclear i will gladly clarify. Thanks Ottawa4ever (talk) 20:34, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

8.This question is meant to be a hypothetical question that may be encountered as an admin. Assume a new user (<3months experience) asks for your advice about nominating a certain article for deletion. The user is asking how they should nominate the article and what they should say in their opening statement about why they are nominating the article. The user identifies the article to you, Lets say its a small city in an South American country and appears well sourced, The user feels that the articles sources are not reliable. Assume that the article in question is also appearing on DYK when the user asks you this question about deleting this article. How and what would you respond to the user? Please feel free to make any other assumptions, and this is strictly an optional question. If it appears like the question does not make sense I will be happy to re-word thanks.

Existance and article saving

[edit]

A person passes WP:athlete in that they played professionally based on a source; however, careful examination of the source shows it not to be reliable and therefore fails WP:GNG and the person did not exist at all and was another. So in that its included based on WP:athlete or agrued keep in that case of AFD, but it fails policy gng in that it the reference is not reliable. However the un reliable source may be assumed reliable because in most cases it is considered so, therefore multiple other sources derive based on the original mistake giving it significant coverage and establishing that others feel it relaibel. Essentially one should correct the error as original research outside wikipedia in a seperate documentation. And note the two instances. Ottawa4ever (talk) 13:57, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Dynasty notes for hockey (just notes)

[edit]

Although this changes little i did find a vague definition of Post war dynasty's for NHL teams in Dan Diamonds' Total Stanley Cup 2008 edition. He uses 3 criteria and confirms the teams that the NHL already recongnizes (Note the Ottawa Senators are a pre-war dynasty and do not fit these criterias) quote;

a) Three-or-more consecutive Stanley Cup wins
b) Five or six consecutive playoff appearances including four Stanley Cup wins
c) Seven consecutive playoff appearances including five Stanley Cup wins

I think the criteria and additional source mentioning these criteria for post war teams in the NHL may be worth adding to the prose of the section for future editing (expansions).Ottawa4ever (talk) 21:09, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit]

Shirley was a noted hockey and foot ball player.

Death

[edit]

Shirley went missing while sailing on August 5th along with Miss Hingston, daughter of Sir William Hingston (a noted Canadian surgeon). The accident was said to be inexplicable due to the fact that Shirley was an accomplished sailor.[1]

Braidwood on Fire Engines

[edit]

Recongnizing the lack of publications on Fire Engines in the english language, Braidwood published what is regarded as one of the first text books on the science of fire engineering in 1830; On the Construction of Rire Engines and Apparatus.[1] Although many historical books often are re-published by virtue of public domain copy rights, Braidwood's book was offically re-published as a second edition in 2004.
