La Forêt (the French word for forest) is a French restaurant located in New Almaden in San Jose, California. It sits adjacent to the Los Alamitos Creek and a mile downstream from the Almaden Reservoir Dam.
The building originally stood as a boarding house for local crews (mostly local quicksilver miners). The two-story building, (the first two story-hotel in California) housed miners and provided hot meals in a rustic dining room downstairs. In the early days of the Great Depression in the 1930's, it was converted into Cafe Del Rio, which served the locals for almost 40 years. In 1978, owners John Davoudi and Mike Mashayekh renovated the old building into a fine french dining establishment, while preserving its historical authenticity, and named it after its lush green surroundings - La Forêt.
