On Monday, January 8, 2024, the attorney for defendant Michael Roman filed a paper with the Court alleging that Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade had an improper romantic relationship which created a conflict of interest in the case. The filing asserts that the conflict arises from the fact that Willis hired Wade for this case and that Willis also went on vacations with Wade. Hence, Willis profited from the hiring of Wade. The filing further requests that the charges against Roman be dropped and Willis be disqualified from the case. The filing cites sealed records for the divorce of Nathan Wade as the source of its information. A hearing will be held on whether or not to unseal the records. Willis’s office has said that they will file a motion to have the request dismissed. The filing caused an intense reaction in right wing social media. It is not clear what effect these allegations will have on the case. [1] [2]
