Amerivision Song Contest

The Amerivision Song Contest 1973 was the eighteenth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster Canal 1. The edition was hosted in Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, in Bogotá, Colombia, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.

This edition was the second in a roll notable for the movement in the countries participating, as this edition saw the withdraw of Chile, Nicaragua and Panama, the debut of Bolivia and the return of Peru.

Chile originally intended to participate of the 1973 contest, and even picked "Diosa del mar" by Sacros as its entry, however, due to the 1973 Chilean coup d'état happening just four days before the event, Chile withdrew from the contest at the last minute.

Host picking

[edit]

Seven colombian venues showed interest in hosting the event, the bolded bid was the selected one. For the edition, Canal 1 scaled back and went with a simpler edition, going back to the usual 1,000 minimum capacity for the venues.
