Storylines

2009–14

In November 2009, Gabi (Gabriela Rodriguez) is introduced as the teenage sister of Rafe (Galen Gering) and Arianna Hernandez (Lindsay Hartley). Initially, Arianna and Gabi struggle to be civil to one another but eventually bond. At school, Gabi befriends Chad Peterson-Woods (Casey Deidrick) his ex-girlfriend Mia McCormick (Taylor Spreitler) and her new boyfriend Will Horton (Dylan Patton). Gabi has a crush on Chad and they date briefly until he leaves her for Mia in early 2010. Gabi (Camila Banus) bonds with Will (Chandler Massey) and they share their first kiss after when he comforts her after Arianna's death in October 2010. The family finds a little bit of happiness when Rafe marries Will's mother Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and Gabi and Will start dating. In March 2011, Gabi is devastated when someone steals earrings -- that were a gift from Will. While she if furious to learn that her brother Dario (Francisco San Martin) is behind the theft, she and Will enlist Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) to get him out of legal trouble. In June 2011, Gabi undergoes emergency surgery to remove her appendix which keeps her from attending prom but Will finds a way to bring the prom to her. Soon after her recovery, Gabi has plans to lose her virginity to Will but his great-grandmother Caroline Brady (Peggy McCay) reveals that Will does not want to rush. Gabi and Will make love for the first time in August 2011 and she later confides in Will's cousin Abigail Deveraux (Kate Mansi) that Will seems to have lost interest. Gabi starts work at Intensity Day Spa and reconnects with Chad. After several failed attempts to seduce Will, Gabi is shocked when he ask her to move in with him. A confused Gabi breaks it off with Will and he is furious. Gabi is later kidnapped along with Chad and Melanie Jonas (Molly Burnett) by criminals running an illegal gambling ring and Chad rescues her.

In 2012, Sami and Will's grandmother Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) hire Gabi and Chad to model for Countess Wilhelmina Cosmetics. Realizing she has feelings for Chad, Gabi pursues him despite his new romance with Melanie. Gabi schemes to keep them apart but Chad is oblivious to her feelings. After Will reveals that he is gay, Gabi ask for his help to break up Chad and Melanie but he refuses. To get Chad's attention, Gabi claims she is being stalked by fan. Gabi uses his crush on her to manipulate production assistant Andrew (Caleb Hunt) into posing as her stalker. Gabi makes her move on Chad after he has a bad fight with Melanie and she suddenly leaves town just as his father Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) andLexie Carver (Renée Jones) pass away. Unfortunately, Chad can't get over Melanie and Gabi is shocked when she discovers that Andrew has been holding Melanie hostage. However, Andrew convinces Gabi to keep quiet so she can be with Chad and he moves Melanie to the tunnels under Salem as Gabi claims that he attacked her. Gabi avoids exposure when Andrew is presumed dead when a tunnel collapses on him and she helps Chad rescue Melanie. However, Andrew survives and exposes Gabi to Chad who rejects her. Gabi finds comfort with Will who is still struggling to come to terms with his sexuality and they have sex. They immediately agree their tryst is a mistake, but want to remain friends. On Chad's orders, Gabi turns down Sami's offer to start modeling again. However, Gabi refuses to stay under his thumb and agrees to be one of Melanie's bridesmaids at her and Chad's wedding. Gabi befriends Melanie's reformed foe Nick Fallon (Blake Berris) fresh out of prison but when Chad attacks Nick warning him to stay away from Melanie, Gabi confesses to Melanie and Melanie in turn dumps Chad and skips town. Nick blackmails Chad into keeping quiet in exchange for him dropping the assault charges against him. Gabi and Nick soon begin datin but he seems uneasy when he learns that Gabi and Will once dated. Meanwhile, Gabi encourages Will to go after his true love Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith). Gabi later discovers she is pregnant and Will ask her to get an abortion but she changes her mind. Nick convinces Gabi and Will to keep quiet and he soon proposes and wants to raise the baby as his own and a reluctant Will agrees. Sonny pushes Gabi away when he discovers Gabi's part in Melanie's kidnapping. Nick and Gabi attend marriage counseling under Sami's priest brother Father Eric (Greg Vaughan). Meanwhile, Gabi is uneasy when Will experiences second thoughts about keeping the baby's paternity secret.

In January 2013, Chad interrupts Gabi's wedding to reveal that Nick is not the baby's father forcing Will to claim the child. Nick is not happy when Rafe convinces Gabi to postpone their wedding.
