Santiago Achaval[edit]

Santiago Achával first became interested in wine after taking weekend trips with friends to the Napa Valley while completing an MBA at Stanford in 1989. There, he tasted fine wines and learned the winemaking process in his free time. After completing his studies, he returned to Argentina and began his career as a winemaker.[1]

As Founding Partner and President of Achával-Ferrer Winery, established in 1998, Achaval manages the operation's vineyard and winery integration.[2]

In 2005, Argentine vintner Santiago Achaval was approached by Michael Evans and Pablo Gimenez Riili of The Vines of Mendoza to join their team as Head Winemaker, working with private vineyard estate owners to teach them the winemaking process.[3] [4]

Achaval received 98 points for his Finca Altamira Malbec and 97 points for his 2004 Finca Bellavista Malbec by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.[5] Achaval-Ferrer claims wines highly ranked by Wine Spectator. [6][7][8][9][10]
