Sudin Pokharel (born on 23 February ,1979 [1]), popularly known as DA69 ,is one of the Pioneer of Nepali Hiphop industry , music scenario and Nepali journalist who is currently based on Australia[2]. Personal life[edit]
He was Born on 23 February,1979[1] in Kathmandu as the son of a professor of political science, he was raised in his hometown Biratnagar[4]. His mother is an ophthalmic assistant in Nepal Eye Hospital in Biratnagar and his sister is a web page designer, now based in Australia. Sudin Pokharel lives in New South Wales, Sydney. He is married to Rashmi Rijal and they have a daughter together, Maya. After marriage, he moved to Australia and works there. Along with his wife and daughter, Pokharel also had his father and mother with him[5].
Educational and professional background[edit]
He completed his SLC from St. Joseph’s School at Tinpainee in Biratnagar was an average student(1985-1996). He completed his I.A.(1997-1999) and B.A(bachelor of arts and economics) from Tribhuvan University (1999-2002). He pursue his Master's degree from College of Journalism And Mass Communication, Nepal(2009-2011)[6] .
He is a Business Specialist ( Present ) , Television Producer , Presenter / Music ( Nepali Rap since 1998 ).he has worked as a producer , reporter and presenter at kantipur televison network from 2001-2012.Kantipur Television is a private television station based in Kathmandu, Nepal. he has worked as a Senior Sports Presenter / Producer and Reporter for the Television network for more than 10 years. his role included presenting everyday sports news which covered all major national and international sports. he also produced and anchored more than 400 episode of a weekly sports show called SCOREBOARD . Apart from this live Football / Cricket commentary and covered various sports played in Nepal[5].
he has also been an Professional Musicana active since 1996. he Have been in Nepalese Rap ( NepHop ) since 2 decades with 2 famous album X and Vyakaraan Of Rap. his music Videos are under a different Record Label as his record company sold all the rights to a company called MUSIC NEPAL and they hold the copyrights. his was done without informing him.
However his YouTube Channel is active now.
Sudin is also a business specialist as a office worker on north rocks, NSW sydney from 2012 to present . Music Career[edit]
He was interested in music since his young age, he formed a band with Sugam Pokharel named SPO x Band which, however, was super flop. Nevertheless, he continued his passion for music and later contributed to a sing titled Udi jane yo panchi haina[7] which was pretty much well received. Although they disbanded, they are still good friends and sometimes collaborates for a song or two. Sudin Pokharel was called Diwash Pokharel in his school. He later collaborated with Girish Khatiwoda the band known as Girish and The Unity released their first album Back Again which became quite successful with one of its song Ma esto chhu ma testo chhu[8] become one of the hit and popular songs especially among the young crowd. Girish leaving for abroad left the band in peril and later Sudin collaborated with Aidray and Asif[9] and formed another band named The Unity which is known as one of the popular hip-hop bands in Nepal. The first song by the band titled Shez the bomb[10], featuring Sugam Pokhrel was super hit and it opened the doors of music industry for Sudin once again.
his first release was with Sugam Pokharel. However, the rap duo of Girish Khatiwada and Pranil Timalsena ‘Ma yesto chu, ma usto chu’[8] featuring Pokharel is what got him into the limelight. He again collaborated with Pranil Timalsena on the “Aakha Bhari[11]” track in 2003. The track topped the charts and the pair also received the Hits FM Music Award. Pokharel had already established himself as an outstanding rapper in the emerging Nephop scene. He then founded the rap group ‘The Unity[12]’ with Asif Shah and Amit (Aidray), which later became a major hit.
Not only was his music career doing well, but he also excelled as a sports journalist while working with Kantipur and fans loved him. However, in 2011 he dropped everything he had made for himself and moved to Australia. Now, after a long break in November 2019, he returned to the music industry with the song Josh and soon after with another song Samriddhi. now he is currently active on youtube with a channel named as Sudin Pokharel DA69 Joined Apr 15, 2018 on with 10k subscriber and over 4 lakhs views.
