My name is Muhammad Salem, a junior at NJIT in the field of computer engineering. I started college in 2009 after graduating early from high school at the age of 15. Completing high school within such a short timeframe helped me improve in many areas, which are also discussed in chapter one. The first area which I developed during my last year of middle school was time efficiency, which was a critical component in allowing me to manage multiple courses simultaneously to allow me to complete the high school requirements in two long years.

Another area which is relevant to both my education and the topic at hand is self-directed learning. Studying double the amount of courses per year required me to learn many things on my own so that I could advance without being held back because of my dependency on an instructor. I am trying my best to apply these skills in my education at NJIT, and I am certain that the skills that I developed and the material that we will all learn in this course will be a stepping stone towards a successful and bright future.

My first field experience was as a student in high school, where I applied what I learned in class by teaching it to the students of the middle school, and was given a volunteer position as a teacher after proving myself in the field during the probationary teaching period of six months. After graduating high school, I started to focus my time on positions that can enhance my capabilites and allow me to practice what I learn in college in practical situations.

My next experience was at a private school as the head of the IT department, I conducted all the duties involved with maintaining an institution of learning’s technological needs. A year later, As the Assistant Director of the technological studies department, I supervised a staff of 35 teachers and conducted interviews with personnel candidates. Assisted in structuring the entire technological studies Department, enabling teachers to effectively teach their subjects on all levels: Pre-K, Elementary, Jr. High and High school students. Some duties required advisment of lessons to be taught, consulting on various issues.

Working in both the Technological and secular fields for the past couple of years has afforded me the experience of dealing with a variety of issues and individuals related to computer engineering. I am fluent in the major computer languages and aspire to benefit both the technological and educational field.
