The Count of Monte-Cristo: Great Revenge (モンテ・クリスト伯 華麗なる復讐, Monte-Kurisuto Haku: Kareinaru Fukushū) is a Japanese television drama aired on every Thursday at 22:00 (JST) on Fuji Television from April 19 to June 14, 2018, starring Dean Fujioka.[1]

The opening theme is performed by Karen Aoki and the ending theme is performed by DEAN FUJIOKA.[2]

Synopsis[edit]

Based on a long novel The Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexandre Dumas, this is a drama series set in modern Japan.

Cast and characters[edit]

Dan Saimon and those involved with him[edit]

  • Dean Fujioka as Dan Saimon and Monte Cristo Shinkai, a sailor at Morio Fishing Industry in Shizuoka Prefecture. The character is based on Edmond Dantès (The Count of Monte Cristo) from the novel.
  • Min Tanaka as Faria Shinkai, an old man Dan met in prison. The character is based on Abbé Faria from the novel.
  • Masaki Miura as Shigeru Tsuchiya, a secretary hired by Shinkai to act in Japan. The character is based on Giovanni Bertuccio from the novel.
  • Yuki Sakurai as Airi Eda, Yukio's manager. The character is based on Haydée from the novel.

Yukio Nanjo and those involved with him[edit]

  • Tadayoshi Okura as Yukio Nanjo, Sumire's childhood friend and an actor. The character is based on Fernand Mondego from the novel.
  • Mizuki Yamamoto as Sumire Meguro and Sumire Nanjo, Dan's fiancée. The character is based on Mercédès Mondego from the novel.
  • Erena Kamata as Asuka Nanjo, Yukio and Sumire's daughter. She is an elementary school student who likes to draw. Although both gender and age are different, the character is based on Albert de Morcerf from the novel.
  • Joe Nakamura as Sean Lee, an actor that Yukio had a valet in Hong Kong. The character is based on Ali Tebelen from the novel.
  • Hiro Hayama as Danny Wong, a man belonging to the Hong Kong's mafia "Vampa."

Kiyoshi Kagura and those involved with him[edit]

  • Hirofumi Arai as Kiyoshi Kagura, Dan's senior since high school. The character is based on Baron Danglars from the novel.
  • Izumi Inamori as Rumi Kagura, Kiyoshi's wife. The character is based on Madame Hermine Danglars from the novel.
  • Yuki Kubota as Naoki Ushiyama, Kiyoshi's secretary. The character is based on Lucien Debray from the novel.

Kohei Iruma and those involved with him[edit]

  • Katsunori Takahashi as Kohei Iruma, a counselor in the Third Foreign Affairs Division of the Public Security Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. The character is based on Gérard de Villefort from the novel.
  • Masatō Ibu as Teikichi Iruma, the head of the investment company "TI Fund Management." The character is based on Monsieur Noirtier de Villefort from the novel.
  • Sayaka Yamaguchi as Erina Iruma, Kohei's second wife. The character is based on Héloïse de Villefort from the novel.
  • Yukino Kishii as Miran Iruma, the daughter of Kohei's late ex-wife. The character is based on Valentine de Villefort from the novel.
  • Taira Utsunomiya as Eito Iruma, a kindergartener and Kohei and Erina's son. The character is based on Édouard de Villefort from the novel.
  • Hiroyuki Onoue as Fumiya Deguchi, a young bureaucrat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Miran's fiancé. The character is based on Baron Franz d'Épinay from the novel.
  • Kyoko Muramatsu as Baba, a housekeeper of the Iruma family. The character is based on Barrois from the novel.

Morio Fishing Industry[edit]

  • Houka Kinoshita as Eiichiro Morio, the president of Morio Fishing Industry. The character is based on Pierre Morrel from the novel.
  • Mahiro Takasugi as Shinichiro Morio (His childhood is played by Ruito Yamashiro), Eiichiro's son. The character is based on Maximilian Morrel from the novel.
  • Kanami Tagawa as Kokubo, a female clerk at Morio Fishing Industry. The character is based on Coclès from the novel.

  • Shono Hayama as Kanji Ando, a young businessman planning to launch an apparel brand. The character is based on Benedetto (Andrea Cavalcanti) from the novel.
  • Kiyohiko Shibukawa as Rui Terakado, Yukio and Kiyoshi's senior since their school days. The character is based on Gaspard Caderousse from the novel.
  • Jun Fubuki as Megumi Saimon, Dan's mother, who raised him single-handedly. The character is based on a part of Louis Dantès from the novel.
  • Kyusaku Shimada as Yoshikuni Kijima, a member of the House of Representatives.
  • Shuntaro Yanagi as Mitsuru Amano, a mysterious man who claims to be from the loan shark "F&D Finance." He lends money to Kanji and then violently collects from him.
  • Tsutomu Takahashi as Daigo Tominaga, the president of Tominaga Fisheries where Shinichiro works.
  • Asuka Kurosawa as Hinako Saeki, the owner of a karaoke snack bar.

International broadcast[edit]

The Count of Monte-Cristo: Great Revenge premiered on September 20, 2018, on Videoland Japan Channel (緯來日本台) in Taiwan under the title 華麗大復仇.[19] To promote the drama, Dean Fujioka and Mizuki Yamamoto attended the J Series Festival in Taiwan on September 18, 2018.[20]
