Bempedoic acid, sold under the brand name Nexletol among others, is a medication used to treat high cholesterol.[3][1] It is unclear if it effects life expectancy or disability as of 2021.[3] It is used together with a statin.[1] It is taken by mouth.[3]

Common side effects include high uric acid, pain in arms or legs, and [low red blood cells]].[1] Other side effects may include liver problems and tendon rupture.[3] Use in pregnancy may harm the baby.[3] It works by blocking an enzyme in the liver called adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase, which is involved in making cholesterol.[1]

Bempedoic acid was approved for medical use in the United States and Europe in 2020.[1][3] In the United Kingdom 4 weeks of medication costs the NHS about £55 as of 2021.[4] This amount in the United States costs about 360 USD.[5] It is also available as the combination of bempedoic acid/ezetimibe.[6]
