Luis B. Modesto Lopez is a doctoral student in the Department of Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He was born and grew up in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Luis coursed four semesters of the Chemical Engineering Program in the Faculty of Chemical Sciences at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi. In 1999 he obtained a scholarship from The Ministry of Education of Japan to study chemical engineering there. He moved to Tokyo in April 2000, and started Japanese language classes in the International Students Institute in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo. After one year of Japanese lessons, he was assigned to Miyakonojo National Colelge of Technology, in the southern prefecture of Miyazaki, where he obtained an Associate of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. In 2004, he entered Hiroshima University, and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 2006. In his senior year at Hiroshima University Luis joined the group of professor Kikuo Okuyama, where he was introduced to the field of Aerosol Science and Engineering. He started his researcher's career in the Okuayma's laboratory by investigating the assembly of two-dimensional arrays of colloidal particles using the spin coating technique. As an undergraduate student, Luis co-authored an article in the journal Colloids and Surface A[1].

In 2006, Luis joined the group of professor Pratim Biswas[2] at Washington University in St. Louis, where he is currently pursing his doctorate.
