Mitch Johnson is a musician and saxophone teacher in Austin, Texas. He maintains a private lesson studio comprised of students from Anderson High School and Murchison Middle School within the Austin Independent School District.[[1]]

Background[edit]

Mitch Johnson attended Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas, where he was a member of the Coppell High School Band. Johnson distinguished himself as an alto saxophonist, placing 12th overall in 2002 and 6th overall in 2003 in the Texas Music Educators Association Texas 5A All-State Band.[2]

Johnson has studied with Christy Springer, Harvey Pittel of the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, and Dr. Eric Nestler at the University of North Texas College of Music. Johnson currently studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

Teaching[edit]

Johnson served on the private lesson staff at Briarhill Middle School Band and the Marcus High School Band within the Lewisville Independent School District in Lewisville, Texas from 2006-2007. During this time, the Marcus High School Band placed first in the University Interscholastic League 5A Texas State Marching Band Competition.[3] Johnson has judged the Region 24 Middle School Region Band competition, had two outstanding soloists in Lewisville solo competitions, and a first chair in Region 24 All-District competition.
