DCU: Origins And Omens is a series of backup stories created by DC Comics. First released on February 2009, it follows the narration of Scar, one of the former Guardians of the Universe, as she muses on the fate of several characters in the DC Universe.
The backup stories all involve Scar, who as of Blackest Night #0 is considered the Guardian of the Black Lantern Corps, as she makes frequent visits to a secret location in Oa to safeguard and read the Book of the Black, a mysterious book connected to the Blackest Night Prophecy, as well as to the Black Lantern Her background story at the beginning of every chapter of Origins and Omens mentions her soul's corruption at the hands of the Anti Monitor - the series also mentions that she alone knows how to read the Book of the Black. She uses a thick black liquid which appears to be coming out of her eyes to illustrate the future events about to happen to some of the DCU's most prominent characters.
