The Low Anthem is a multi-instrumental band from Providence, Rhode Island. Their music is best described as Folk-Americana. The band is best known for its carefully textured layers of vocal harmonies and instrumental interludes. Flannel shirts, baseball caps, comfortable clothes are the standard wardrobe for performances that have varied in location from makeshift, living room hootenannies to mainstage performances at folk festivals. The ensemble has been known to forego PA systems and amplification in order to more suitably blend with their surroundings.

The Low Anthem began in Providence in 2004 as a collaboration between Ben Knox Miller, a folk musician, poet, and visual artist from New York's Hudson River Valley and Jeff Prystowsky, a jazz bassist and baseball scholar from New Jersey. Miller and Prystowsky met as teammates in the wood bat summer leagues in rural Connecticut. A mutual interest in Americana, baseball, and morally agnostic narrative necessitated the formation of The Low Anthem. Their collaboration with classical composer Jocie Adams began in November 2007.
