DIY Active (formerly Always Active Athletics) is a Missouri-based fitness and wellness website founded in 2011. Its focus is on providing scientifically-backed health and wellness research free-of-charge. Its stated goal is to eliminate the need of traditional gym memberships for those who lack the time to use them.

Much of the company’s media relies on data-driven fitness initiatives, such as the excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) model.[1]

Onalytica rated DIY Active at number 10 on its list of “Top 100 Influencers and Brands” in the health fitness category.[2]

Foundation[edit]

DIY Active was founded by scientist and fitness expert Josh Anderson. Anderson earned an M.S. in Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida in 2011 and his research has been published by the Cambridge University Press[3]; the Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, Oxford Press[4]; and the Marine Ecology Progress Series[5].

Anderson’s fitness publication outlets include SHAPE, Consumer Health Digest[6], Muscle & Strength[7] and LifeHack[8].
