The National Council of Women in India (NCWI) was the second women's organization formed in India. NCWI was involved with women's suffrage in India.[1] NCWI also worked towards improving women's lives in terms of maternity benefits, access to medical centers and child-care,[2] and opposed child marriage.[3] NCWI has published a journal in English, called NCWI Bulletin since 1925.[4]
History
[edit]The NCWI was created as a national branch of the International Council of Women (ICW).[5] It was the first Indian women's organization associated with an international group.[6] A membership fee of Rs 15 and other high membership rates meant that the organization was geared towards wealthy women.[7]
