Former Fat Boys are an American hip-hop duo from Geneva, IL in the suburbs of Chicago. The founders and two primary members of the group are producer Hard Corey (Corey Wills) and rapper $ucksex (Ben Garbe). The group also regularly collaborates and performs with Dirty Erik (Erik Skulborstad) and Saltine (Mitchell Robert Adams), and used to feature frontman Mintie Phresh (Pat Ryan).

Started in 1998 as CK Boy, the group recorded various parodies of pop music that regularly sat in the top spots on the original MP3.com comedy charts resulting in nearly 1 million downloads.[1] These parodies can still be found on file sharing networks and are often falsely attributed to "Weird Al" Yankovic". The group has been extremely active in the nerdcore hip hop genre and music scene, though not all of their releases fall neatly into the genre. In 2000 the group began creating original hip-hop tracks and releasing them via the internet.

In 2004, the group released a track titled I"M A DINOSAURus into the "The 2004 J-List and Something Awful Mega Kawaii Contest Prize Bucks Super-Saiyan Extravaganza!" contest on comedy website Something Awful.[2] The song won first prize and subsequently became somewhat of an internet meme spawning fan made music videos.

In 2005 Former Fat Boys released their first full length album called Rocky Loves Emily. Their record release show was also the first of several concerts they would play with fellow Nerdcore hip hop artist mc chris. In 2005 and 2006 they would open several concert dates for mc chris across the midwest. During that time some of their songs were featured on the popular podcast and radio show Pacific Coast Hellway which airs on channel 102 on Sirius Satellite Radio.[3]

In the summer of 2005 the Former Fat Boys appeared on MTV's The Reality Show. They were not chosen as contestants, but were featured heavily on the first two episodes and their song Hodown was used by MTV in the show as well as in ads promoting the show. Concert footage of the band was also used by MTV. In 2005 the Former Fat Boys played several dates on MC Chris's Eating's Not Cheating tour and played a few dates on his subsequent tours. [4] [5]

In 2006 the Former Fat Boys entered their song "Snakes on a Plane" in a contest at the social network TagWorld that was sponsored by the movie Snakes on a Plane. They were a chosen as a finalist in the competition, but, despite having the most votes, did not win the competition. [6] Their song was used by New Line Cinema and, the now defunct, mixxer.com in their ringtone campaign for the film. [7] [8]

According to their official blog [9], Former Fat Boys spent 2007 dealing with medical issues and focusing on releasing a second full length album. Frontman $ucksex documented his knee surgery on the band's blog. He expressed his excitement at the use of stem cells in his treatment. In March their song "I Ain't Gonna Pay My Taxes" was entered in the "Tax Rap Competition" sponsored by Intuit, the makers of the TurboTax software, and YouTube. The Former Fat Boys were chosen as a finalist and ended up recieving a "Viewer's Choice Award" as a runner-up.[10] $ucksex posted photos on thier official site of the prizes they won which included a Turbo Tax logo necklace covered in fake diamonds.

In 2005 filmmaker Dan Lamereaux attended the mc chris/Former Fat Boys show at the Double Door in Chicago, IL. He became interested in Nerdcore hip hop as a genre and began creating a documentary called "Nerdcore for Life". The documentary gained notoriety and traction when YouTube featured the trailer for the documentary on Boing Boing. The Former Fat Boys are interviewed and featured in the documentary and later recieved related press in Newsweek and other publications related to the film. The film is scheduled to premiere at the Wisconsin Film Festival on April 5, 2007. [11]

In July 2007, Capcom invited nerdcore rappers Beefy, YTCracker, Former Fat Boys, and more to perform at their main stage at the Comic-Con International[12][13]. The concert was later featured on SpikeTv's Game Head and the rappers were all interviewed by host Geoff Keighley. [14]

The Former Fat Boys are planning to release two albums this year (according to their blog) and have announced that one of the albums will be released after their performance at Nerdapalooza Southeast 2008, a charity festival in Orlando, FL to be held in July 2008.
