Wired Fm - Limerick's student radio station

Wired Fm began broadcasting in September 1995 and is a partnership between the colleges of Mary Immmaculate College Limerick (MIC) and Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).

The station operates a schedule from Monday to Thursdays during the Academic year and is open to any student in MIC and LIT to get involved. Training is provided for all volunteers at the station and once training is complete, volunteers present and produce their own shows. The station is licensed by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) and is licensed up until 2017 under the category of community of interest. The station is currently staffed by one full time employee who manages the station. The current manager is Martina O'Brien. Previous managers include - Nessa McGann, Rosemary Day. 3 co-op positions are also filled by students from MIC on their 3rd year Batchelor of Arts programme who take up the positions as work placement either for semeser 1, semester 2 or both semesters. Under the current license, some of the station's programme policy statement includes the following committments:

  • 40% talk
  • 60% music
  • 20% Current affairs
  • 20% music to be Irish
  • 10% of talk to be in Irish
