The first school of radiologic technology in the Philippines is The Family Clinic Inc. Hospital and Colleges now called Caritas FCI Hospital and Colleges.

“Established on March 29, 1950 as a single proprietorship, The Family Hospital and Colleges wass originally known a 20-bed hospital housed in a two-storey building in Sampaloc, Manila Philippines.

November 14, 1953– it was organized into a corporation with Dr. and Mrs. Eliodoro Congco, Dr. and Mrs. Pedro Ylagan, and Mr. and Mrs. Jose Arguelles as incorporators and renamed THE FAMILY CLINIC, INC.(FCI).

In 1961— a license to operate a 100-bed hospital was granted to FCI and this paved the way to the opening of its School of Nursing, which replaced the School of Midwifery.

In 1970— The school's old building was demolished and in its stead, rose a nine-storey, 100-bed general hospital equipped with modern facilities, centralized air-conditioning and other amenities.

In 1977— A hospital annex was built housing additional classrooms and offices for the medical consultants.

In 1978— A new six-storey building along Gov. Forbes St. (presently, A.H. Lacson), Sampaloc, Manila was inaugurated and presently houses four Colleges, namely: College of Nursing, College of Radiologic Technology, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Physical Therapy due to the increasing student population.

The birth and growth of The Family Clinic, Inc. can be traced to the vision of Dr. Eliodoro Congco in partnership with his spouse, Dr. Lydia Congco. Imbued with a missionary and entrepreneurial spirit, he had a philanthropic vision and a paternalistic approach. His death in 1988 brought to a close an enviable record of meaningful civic, professional and business involvement and achievements. His spouse took over the helm until her demise in November last year. The legacy of providing affordable quality healthcare education continues to fulfill dreams, which are now passed on to the children of the founders. Ernesto Congco and Mrs. Emma C. Garcia who were elected Chairman of the Board and President respectively.

In 2006, faculty development is a major concern. Thus, all faculty members are required to finish their Masteral Degrees. Five percent of the faculty already have doctoral degrees, 40 percent Masteral degrees and the rest (55 percent) are now in their masteral thesis writing. It is expected that by the end of this year, all faculty members shall have completed their postgraduate studies.

As the pioneer & leading school in Radiologic Technology in the Philippines, FCI has produced board top notchers in RT since its inception. The school maintains its commitment to assist deserving poor students to pursue their studies, and in line with this, the school has expanded its scholarship grants. Family Clinic also has been granted slots under the CHED’s Scholarship Program.

Performance of graduates in Board Exams has been consistently improving for graduates. Some of the graduates landed in the top 20 of some exams. FCI ranked TOP 1 for schools in the X-Ray Technologist Licensure Exam in December 2008. Enrichment courses and other developmental programs are regularly undertaken by the school to make sure that students are very well prepared to take the challenge of passing the board exam.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM OFFERINGS

In 1970 the school pioneered the offering of a course in the field of X-Ray Technology. The College of Radiologic Technology, since its inception has continuously lived up to its mission of producing quality education and training in this field. Through the years, graduates of the College continuous to land as topnotchers in the board examination for X-Ray and Radiologic Technologists.

The institution offers a common general education program Associate in Health Science Education (AHSE). The first two years is geared towards helping students decide which career path to take in the health field. After two years, students are already equipped with the basic knowledge, skills, and proper values and outlook of a health worker giving them the opportunity to work in clinics or hospitals as nursing aides or nurse assistants.

The College of Nursing maintains a well-balanced curriculum in order to produce a well-rounded nurse who is equipped not only with the right knowledge and necessary skills but also possesses with the proper values of nursing care. The College has edge over some nursing schools became it has its own base hospital bearing the same name of the college. Student nurses receive their first training in the base hospital after which they are assigned to the different major hospitals for further training in the special areas, namely, obstetrical, surgical, mental, pediatric, emergency room and others.

The FCI's Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy was given full recognition by the Commission on Higher Education 1993. It has complete laboratory facilities aside from the rehabilitation center of its base hospital to ensure that students are given hands-on experience to apply theories learned in the classroom.

The College of Liberal Arts has produced graduates in its Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree. With its updated and responsive curriculum and relevant practicum program , some of its graduates have landed good jobs in Human Resources Departments of big companies, while the others have become successful entrepreneurs, teachers, and committed employees of respectable institutions in the country.

Its six-month Caregiver Training Program was given due recognition by TESDA and has been recognized by the Canadian Embassy. With its hospital-based training, caregiver graduates are better prepared to deliver the needed care of prospective clientele.

FCI ACQUIRED BY CARITAS HEALTH SHIELD

In 2011, FCI's new name will be CARITAS FCI HOSPITAL AND COLLEGES after it was acquired by the Caritas Health Shield group of companies.

New courses will also be offered like BS Medical Technology, BS Psychology, BS Entrepreneurship, BS Pharmacy, Midwifery, TESDA courses like, Emergency Medical Services, Computer Hardware Servicing, etc. Plus post grad course in Ultrasound, MRI and CT Scan. Also, upon the go signal of the CHED we will be the first to open up Master of Science in Radiologic Technology.

The school facilities will be upgraded plus the school facade will undergo rehabilitation.

The College of Radiologic Technology plus the Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences (formerly Liberal Arts) will be relocated in room 207 and 208. Laboratories for additional courses will be set-up on the fourth floor of the school.
