The Istanbul University Faculty of Communication is a faculty at Istanbul University. It was initially established as the "Istanbul University Institute of Journalism" in 1950, and was the first higher education program in journalism in Turkey.

In 1947, the president and founder of the Turkish Journalists Association, Sedat Simavi, presented a request for the creation of an institute teaching journalism and reporting to the rector of Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Sıddık Sami Onar, with the goal of creating a “training environment which was contemporary and based on scientific principles” [1] for future journalists.

The institute was known as the "Journalism and Public Relations Institute" from 1975-1980, and existed under the umbrella of the Istanbul University Faculty of Economics. In 1980, the institute was designated a college, and the name was changed to "College of Journalism and Public Relations." In 1982, the college was moved under the direction of the Istanbul University Rectorate, with the title "School of Press and Publication". The school has employed a four year degree system since then. Most recently, the school's name was changed to the "Faculty of Communication" on July 11, 1992. Today, Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees, and PhDs are offered by the faculty in three areas: Journalism, Public Relations and Publicity, and Radio, TV, and Cinema.
