User:Malacht Cromail ort

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A traditional Irish curse was malacht Cromail ort or "The curse of Cromwell upon you". This saying is still occasionally heard in parts of Ireland (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ni/2007/01/what_i_believe_by_the_christia_1.html). It is still frequently used (when appropriate) in the North Galway areas of Headford and the isolated areas West of Headford towards Lough Corrib. While not of the aggressively nationalistic nature so famous of Ireland, such an isolated location has fostered a strong national identiity in the small rural communities - as such embracing the memories and folklore associated with the rape and pillage of the Cromwellian troops on the area. "The last such invasion to escape alive" as they say locally.
