DDR-Oberliga[edit]

The 1960 season was the final season played in the calendar year, lasting from March to November, with a break in August. Magdeburg's style of play found many admirers and the team was regularly lauded in the press for their willingness to play attacking football. That style of play also contributed to side only finishing 7th, after featuring in the top third for much of the first half of the season, as the young side would occasionally be too reckless in their attacks and offering too much room for opposition forwards.
