1952 Glamorgan County Council election[edit]

The nineteenth election to Glamorgan County Council, south Wales, took place in April 1952. It was preceded by the 1949 election and followed by the 1955 election.

Overview[edit]

Labour's comfortable majority on the council, including the aldermanic bench, remained unchanged.

Candidates[edit]

Labour fielded 63 candidates for the 66 seats, 45 of whom were returned unopposed. Three Independent councillors were also unopposed resulting in only eighteen contested elections.[1]

Among the Labour candidates returned unopposed. For instance, in the Neath area, Labour candidates were returned unopposed in four of the five wards.[2]

Outcome[edit]

Labour retained their majority as comfortably as in all previous elections, and captured both the Garw Valley ward[3] and the Coedffranc ward[4] from the Communists.

This is a list of Members of Parliament (MPs) elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom by Welsh constituencies for the Fifty-Eighth Parliament of the United Kingdom (1945–50).

It includes both MPs elected at the 1945 general election, held on 12 December 2019, and those subsequently elected in by-elections.

The list is sorted by the name of the MP, and MPs who did not serve throughout the Parliament are italicised. New MPs elected after the general election are noted at the bottom of the page.
