History[edit]

Started in 2006, Marty Walker, a graduate of University of North Texas, met with Dallas hotel franchise developer and artist Jay Shinn, CEO of Magnolia Lodging, LLC, to discuss opening a gallery storefront with artist studios in the back, calling it “Art Motel” [2] [3] [4]. Located in the Photography District, also known as the Trinity Strand neighborhood in the Dallas Design District [5] [6], the gallery hosted its inaugural exhibition on February 24, 2006.
