Persona[edit]

The "Luno.org" Wikipedia account, the luno.org domain name, and the online persona of "Luno" (in numerous locations) belong to Peter Gamache.

Career[edit]

Peter is currently employed as a network security engineer at a large financial institution. He has been employed as a systems engineer, network engineer, specializing in security since 1997. Prior to that, he worked in various positions, many dealing with IBM PC compatible and Mac hardware, peripherals and networks, since 1990. He has both breadth and depth of knowledge in Unix/Linux operating systems, including Solaris (aka SunOS), AIX, HP-UX, Tru64 (aka OSF/1), Debian GNU/Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SCO OpenServer.

He also has a hobby business, performing landscaping and tractor/loader work on evenings and weekends.

Technology[edit]

Programming languages, in no particular order, that Peter is familiar with: C, PHP, JavaScript, Perl, AWK, Bourne Shell, and others. Also of note, he maintains a rather complex proxy auto-config script for his present employer, an organization with over 350,000 desktop computer users.

Home[edit]

Peter owns a single-family dwelling in Fridley, Minnesota, United States of America, where he resides with his girlfriend and two cats. Along with other family members, he shares a cabin on Lake Sylvia, located approximately 30 miles northwest of Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

Civic Participation[edit]

Peter enjoys volunteer participation in community events and organizations, including CERT, Habitat for Humanity, National Night Out. He also volunteers and raises funds for the Minnesota chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Golden Valley, Minnesota Animal Humane Society.

Hobbies[edit]

Peter is an electronics hobbyist, designing and building home automation and other systems using embedded controllers such as the Basic Stamp and PC/104 based computers, as well as holding a General-class amateur radio license. He also is an avid motorcyclist, commuting every day, rain or shine, on his Triumph Sprint ST.
