Readdle is a Ukraine-founded global software company that creates productivity applications for Windows, iOS, macOS, and Android devices.
Its products include Spark Mail, PDF Expert, Documents, Scanner Pro, Calendars and Fluix – a workflow system for businesses. The company serves 200 million users[1].
History
Readdle was created in Odessa Ukraine in 2007 by former university colleagues[2]: Igor Zhadanov, Alex Tyagulsky, Andrian Budanstov and Dmitry Protserov.
Its first application ‘ReaddleDocs’ was a file which allowed people to view and read documents on the new iPhone, attracting 60,000 users[3] in its first year. In 2008, it was one of the first products to appear on Apple’s newly launched App Store.
A turning point in the company’s infancy occurred when journalist Walter S. Mossberg wrote in the Wall Street Journal [4]that ReaddleDocs was one of his ‘favorite apps that makes the iPhone worth the price.’ Sales were said [5]to have jumped by 800 per cent.
War in Ukraine
In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. CEO Igor Zhadanov recalls[6]: “My people were in shelters pushing updates and replying to customers. I was yelling at them saying "What are you doing, just grab your families.”
Today the company continues to operate with its original Odessa office supported by two Starlink internet terminals and power generators.
In 2023 Readdle opened a new office in London, UK which mirrors Readdle’s working 'hubs[7]' in Berlin, Gdansk, LIsbon, Warsaw, and Kyiv.
Of the company's 300+ workforce, around 140 remain in Ukraine[8], with the remainder relocated internationally.
