Planet Texas Studios, an Austin,Texas based animation studio, develops 2D and and 3D animation design and production company for broadcast, advertising, interactive, games and educational media. Their specialties include film animation, broadcast animation (TV commercials and linear programming), animation for education (eLearning) software for the classroom or online.


The studios services include: custom character design, storyboarding, custom layout and animation, custom color backgrounds, motion graphics, matte painting: CGI environments and conceptual, art direction, compositing and motion tracking, live action rotoscoping, voice talent audition, selection, recording and editing, offline editing, final audio mixing, 3D animation, 3D modeling, 3D lighting and texturing.


Planet Texas Studios was founded by R. Don Smith in January 2008 with partner David E. Young. R. Don Smith has over 30 years experience as an animator, producer, director and designer. He founded Heart of Texas Productions in 1989, a studio whose credits included Warner Bros. Space Jam and Quest for Camelot, Dreamworks's Prince of Egypt, Fox Animation's Anastasia, and Fox Television’s King of the Hill.[1] As the Texas-unit producer/director for those titles, Don oversaw every aspect of the studio’s creative and production processes. Direct-to-video credits include Dreamworks "Joseph, King of Dreams", MGM’s "Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island", Lyrick Studios’ "Francesco’s Friendly World" series, The Family Channel’s "Story of Little Tree", and "The Watchkins Adventures." [2]Don has also worked extensively to produce animation for software and interactive media. At Heart of Texas Productions, he acted as the Texas-unit producer/director and animator (one of many) for Disney Interactive's "The Fate of Agrabbah", Nickelodeon's "Rugrats Adventure", and WB's "Animaniacs Game Pack".
