Publication History

[edit]

The first issue of New Crusaders was released digitally on May 16, 2012, through Archie Comics' Red Circle app, with print publication set to begin monthly on September 5, 2012. Each issue is divided quarterly and released once a week through the app, while full issues are published in print once a month.

Characters

[edit]

The Shield

[edit]

The Shield is the only member of the original Mighty Crusaders still active in the New Crusaders. After saving his colleagues' children from the Brain Emperor's attack in the series' first issue, The Shield took it upon himself to train the teenagers to harness their parents' powers and become a new team of superheroes. Possessing near invulnerability and heightened physical abilities, The Shield is the most capable and experienced member of the team, though he sometimes struggles to connect with the younger heroes.

The Comet

[edit]

Adopted son of the original Comet, Greg Dickering stepped into his father's role in the wake of the Brain Emperor's attack. His powers grant him the ability to fly, as well as the ability to emit destructive laser beams from his eyes. The most mature of the team, Greg is a natural head of the New Crusaders, as the rest of the teenagers tend to follow his lead.

Fireball

[edit]

Hot-headed and generally ill-behaved, Alex spent a portion of his adolescence in juvenile hall due to his regular lashing out. His uncle, Ted Tyler, the original Fireball, had offered to help straighten him out when the Brain Emperor attacked . As his name suggests, Fireball's powers grant him control over fire. Alex is excited to be a superhero, though he relishes every opportunity to buck the authority of The Shield.

Fly-Girl

[edit]

Daughter of the original Flygirl, Kelly Brand stepped up to continue her mother's legacy. Using advanced technology, she possesses heightened physical abilities, flight, and a projectile stun gun. Kelly is active, excited, outgoing, and a little geeky.

Jaguar

[edit]

Ivette Velez spent her whole life in an orphanage after her parents died when she was still a baby. While there, Ralph Hardy, the original Jaguar, took her under his wing as her mentor. For unclear reasons, Ralph saw Ivette as the continuation of the Jaguar legacy and made preparations for her eventual taking up the mantle. Jaguar's animalistic powers originate in the mystical jaguar helmet that Ralph discovered for her, though in order to access these powers, Ivette must face down an ancient Aztec god. Ivette is shy and introverted, but is slowly brought out by the rest of the team.

Steel Sterling

[edit]

Johnny Sterling is the soft-spoken but athletic son of the original Steel Sterling and Mayor of Red Circle, Jack Sterling. His powers, including super strength and near invulnerability, come from skin made from a nanobot framework. Johnny's intimidating presence betrays his calm, measured demeanor.

The Web

[edit]

Wyatt Raymond, son of the original Web and Powgirl, is shy, nerdy, but very passionate about his newly acquired responsibility as a hero. Though neither of his parents had super-abilities, Wyatt possesses what he refers to as his "Strand Sense," which allows him to see shining blue connections between people for a variety of reasons. To make up for his lack of athleticism, Wyatt received a technologically advanced suit to amplify his physical abilities.
