Articles[edit]

Here are the articles so far. They are categorized into protected and rejected (pending review ones would not be archived).

Protected during April 2009[edit]

  1. Derrick Rose - Semi-protection? Enigmamsg 03:54, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
  2. Stephen Curry (basketball) The latest instance of borderline defamation stuck around for over four and a half hours. Enigmamsg 20:07, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
  3. Pauly Shore is the worst side of Wikipedia. If I had the ability, I would probably semi-protect indefinitely. I gutted the article at one point because if was chock full of defamation that was at least a year old. Enigmamsg 04:59, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
    Semiprotected for six months. Risker (talk) 05:06, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
    Thanks Risker, I was looking at it when you beat me to it. I have been going a year though. ++Lar: t/c 05:25, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
  4. Suzanne Muldowney - Trashy article. Not sure what to do with it, but I suggest the first step be semi-protection. Enigmamsg 05:41, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
    I scanned the recent history quickly, but didn't see the obvious vandalism(s) that would justify a semi. The stuff added seemed (while not particularly encyclopedic) fairly good faith. But I may not know the subject very well, can you let me know what diff you think represents vandalism? Thanks. ++Lar: t/c 14:08, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
    I was concerned by this and it's not the first time I've been forced to take to that article with a cudgel. Enigmamsg 15:04, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
    Missed the bottom part of that one. Thanks. Done. ++Lar: t/c 15:58, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
  5. Gary_Dell'Abate - Connected to Howard Stern show. Like Eric the Midget, is thus a likely defamation target. Enigmamsg 20:00, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
    the article is an OR haven currently, I didn't review the history regarding vandalism/libelishness. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 00:32, 7 April 2009 (UTC) there are two or three minor blp violations in the last week or so, all from ip's. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 00:38, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
    Semi'd, ya that counts. ++Lar: t/c 05:53, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
  6. Damon Jonesthis was live for over six hours.
  7. Charlie Villanuevathis was live for over five hours. Zagalejo^^^ 08:02, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
    Did both of the above. ++Lar: t/c 23:17, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
    Awesome, thanks. Zagalejo^^^ 02:09, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
  8. CC Sabathia - [1] Name vandalism. Name is sourced within article. Vandalism stuck over a day. Also repeated stuff like this, usually reverted within minutes. Enigmamsg 07:20, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    That first one isn't "simple" vandalism, it's just wrongheadedness about the use of periods. Could be good faith. Do you have another diff like the second one? ++Lar: t/c 11:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    [2] isn't simple defamation, but it's definitely vandalism, and it lasted for over 8 hours until I mass-reverted. Enigmamsg 14:41, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 21:34, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
  9. Richard Dawkins well known scientist who patiently keeps explaining evolution to the creationists. Latest semi recently lapsed, I'm not going to protect it myself as I'm too involved in the edit wars there; but can an uninvolved admin take a peep? ϢereSpielChequers 08:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    Hi, please see the criteria and listing process. I want the addition of semi to be water tight, so I want to see the requisite number of diffs showing simple vandalism, as outlined above. This is supposed to be an easy process for the admin who adds the protection. Can you please supply 1, 2 or 10 vandalism diffs (depending on their times) done by IPs or newly registered users? Thanks! (PS I'm really glad you came by, and hope that this process isn't too hard... but I want these protections to stick! Let me know on the talk page if you think there's room for improvement, I just formalised this yesterday.) ++Lar: t/c 11:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    9 minutes, 4 & 6 minutes ϢereSpielChequers 11:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 00:38, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
  10. Jonathan Ross I think qualifies for this and that reason; but I would prefer that an uninvolved admin make the call as I've probably edited that page. ϢereSpielChequers 13:08, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 00:56, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
  11. David Wright (baseball) - [3], [4]. Recent vandalism that stuck for hours. Also [5] and [6]. Enigmamsg 20:49, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 00:56, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
  12. Braylon Edwards - [7], [8], [9], [10]. Apparently was targeted by a messageboard. Enigmamsg 20:49, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
    Needs 2 that are 5 min or more, or 10 total. Maybe I should change that criteria, as those 4 are over 10 min total. The better diff to show is the one showing the vandalism being removed, rather than the one showing it being added. That's the one that shows how long it lasted. ++Lar: t/c 00:56, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
    over an hour and a half Enigmamsg 00:21, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 05:42, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
  13. Ralph Lauren - [11], [12]. One vandal removes some vandalism and adds more. Both took far too long to be removed. Also [13] and [14], which still hasn't been removed, but I'll go revert now. Enigmamsg 05:49, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. Keep them coming... tell your friends :) ++Lar: t/c 22:09, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
    I don't have too many people watching my talk page and I don't intend to advertise this. :P I actually believe it would have a detrimental effect. Getting a few other sympathetic admins to help out would be a bonus, however. I asked one, but didn't get a reply. Enigmamsg 23:50, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
  14. Manny Pacquiao - Repeated vandalism of everything by IPs, including his boxing record (vandalism stuck for hours), results of a future match (stuck for a while), etc. Apologies for not providing the diffs in the right format, but this is a repeated vandalism target by IPs and its a pain in the neck to sort through. It has an impressive protection record. Enigmamsg 05:46, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 12:46, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
  15. Jason Kidd - [15], [16]. Stuck for hours. Enigmamsg 05:48, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
    That first one ([17]) doesn't seem like simple vandalism to me. Second one is, though. Done. ++Lar: t/c 02:36, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
  16. Bill Wennington - live for over a day
    done. ++Lar: t/c 02:36, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
  17. Stacey King - live for over three hours, and again for over four hours Zagalejo^^^ 06:58, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

  18. Chris Paul - defamation stuck for hours, vandalism stuck for hours, vandalism for 51 minutes, and much more.
    done. TPW's feel free to jump in here and do some. ++Lar: t/c 11:25, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
  19. Ben Wallace - vandalism stuck for hours, more vandalism, more vandalism, this horrific vandalism was not removed for hours. And still people oppose flagged revisions and semiprotection. Enigmamsg 12:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
    Amazing, isn't it? WHAT are they thinking? Done. ++Lar: t/c 22:37, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
  20. Jon Lester - vandalism stuck for almost 9 hours, defamation lasted over four days!!!. Enigmamsg 13:09, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

  22. Jason Mraz - [21] [22]. Recently came off semi-protection.
    Done. لennavecia 02:24, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
  23. Bobby Cox - [23] [24]. The second one is particularly galling. Not an insignificant article and it took that long for vandalism to be removed? Enigmamsg 01:44, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. لennavecia 02:25, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

    Unprotected by Bongwarrior on April 23. لennavecia 06:36, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
  26. Greg Paulus - self-explanatory. Also, should this page start getting archived at one point? Give me another two weeks and it'll be over 50 entries. Enigmamsg 04:05, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. As for archiving, I recommend archiving by month. لennavecia 11:58, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    Yes. See User_talk:Lar/Liberal_Semi#Archiving_strategy for further discussion. ++Lar: t/c 15:25, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
  27. Allen Iverson - Hate to keep nominating NBA biographies, but I happen to have a lot of them on my watchlist and just about every high profile NBA player's biography is frequently vandalized. [31] [32] [33]. All vandalism. Enigmamsg 12:59, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

  28. Kwame Brown - [34] [35] [36] defamation stuck for 74 minutes! Enigmamsg 13:45, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. This one was nasty so I jumped it in the order. ++Lar: t/c 15:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    I did this one, too, because I didn't realize it'd been done. :p لennavecia 15:45, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    My bad, I forgot to strike it. Can't follow my own procedure, apparently. :) ++Lar: t/c 16:18, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

    Done. لennavecia 15:45, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
  30. Ronny Turiaf - this was up for over ten hours. While it's not libelous or anything, the fact that it stayed so long suggests that not enough people are watching the article. (There's been some nastier vandalism in the past, like this.) Zagalejo^^^ 23:03, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

  44. Mark Madsen - This lasted for over 8 hours. It's not libel or anything, but it indicates that few people are watching the page. Zagalejo^^^ 21:34, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
    I'm rejecting this one. Not convincing vandalism. لennavecia 04:56, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
    What do you mean by not convincing? It is vandalism, and it did stay up for over 8 hours. Enigmamsg 08:16, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
    It's not "malicious" but it is vandalism as it can't be mistaken for a good faith attempt at improving the article. Done. (no disrespect to Jennavecia intended but it fits the criteria I established) ++Lar: t/c 10:54, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
  45. Brian McCann (baseball) - infrequently vandalized, but classic example of unwatched BLP. [45], [46], [47]. Enigmamsg 07:22, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    The first two are vandalism but don't (even together) pass the qualify, and the third strikes me as good faith so doesn't count. Do you have one more that's 5 min or longer, or 8 more total ? Not rejecting yet. ++Lar: t/c 11:02, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    What am I missing? The first one was an hour and one minute, the second was eleven minutes. How does that not qualify? لennavecia 12:46, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Er... apparently I'm also suffering math issues. I read the first one as one minute, not one hour and one minute. yes, this one's valid. Sorry for confusion. ++Lar: t/c 14:34, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Lar needs a nap. :) Done. لennavecia 15:02, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Sez you. ++Lar: t/c 16:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
  46. Shawn_Crahan - A disaster of a high magnitude. I have no idea how long the page contained libel (at a guess, not less than a few months), but *facepalm*. What I removed included allegations that Crahan threatened several people with physical violence. All unsourced, probably untrue. Enigmamsg 16:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Plenty of simple vandalism also. Kevin (talk) 21:29, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    I don't even know if there is a last good version. All the vandalism has become ingrained in the article. I'll have to come back to it later. Enigmamsg 23:34, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Note: Kevin did this one... ++Lar: t/c 01:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
  47. Dwight Howard - [48], [49]. Borderline. Enigmamsg 06:48, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
    reject. Not simple vandalism, could be good faith editing, just unsourced. ++Lar: t/c 16:25, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
    PS to unreject, do you have more diffs? ++Lar: t/c 11:02, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Yes. 7 minutes, 24 minutes, several hours from first vandalism to revert, 42 minutes. Enigmamsg 15:22, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. ++Lar: t/c 00:26, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
  48. Roscoe Parrish - Borderline case, but his page has started getting vandalized more and more. At least the last four were reverted quickly. was not, not either (pretty bad). More recently, this took time to be reverted, although I suppose one could argue it was good faith. Whatever the intent, it was not helpful, as he is still a member of the Bills. PS - Not sure if I should move the Dwight Howard request back to pending or not. Don't want to step on any toes. Enigmamsg 15:52, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Moved it (Dwight). ++Lar: t/c 16:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

  65. Adam Carolla - stupid vandalizm and sophmoric jokes of the sort the subject would enjoy, nevertheless.... 7 mins, 45 mins, supershort, due to page blank vandalism, 23 mins, seems intended as a slight, though not everyone would agree. There have been no protections of this page. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 20:19, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

  66. Kim Petras. Quite sensitive article about a minor. Semiprotection expired march 30. This [79] lasted almost two hours. After, this [80] lasted 15 minutes, and this [81] lasted almost an hour, or close to four hours if counting the time the original IP vandalism was done (only partially reverted by another IP). Frankly, I am getting sick of every now and then waking up to seeing this article being vandalized in a way that (IMO) seriously demeans and hurts the subject. 71. Rajon Rondo - this was up for almost two hours. It seems like you've been tweaking the criteria, so I don't know if this is serious enough to merit protection, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Zagalejo^^^ 05:43, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Rejected[edit]

Rejected during April 2009[edit]

  1. Waseh Siddiqui - a hoax that needs deletion I found doing some new pages patrol. I tagged it, but sometimes the db-watchers are slow if it's not a db-bio. And it's been here for three weeks (created on March 16 [88])--Rocksanddirt (talk) 16:40, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
    deleted now. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 17:23, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
    I would have rejected it, as it's not a case of "simple vandalism" I don't think. ++Lar: t/c 22:38, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
  2. Mercy Otis Warren - half hour, two hours (this article is worked on by my wife a lot, I leave it to someone else to protect) ++Lar: t/c 10:50, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    Little confused with this one - is it a BLP (living)?--VS talk 11:13, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    er, nope! My bad. Rejected because clearly the nominator obviously wasn't paying attention to the criteria **I** set up so carefully... Shame on him for wasting our time. ++Lar: t/c 12:40, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
    At least now I feel better about nominating Sam Houston. :P He at least died well after Warren did! Enigmamsg 15:22, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
  3. Ed Reed - [89], [90], [91], [92] Enigmamsg 07:34, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
    I can't see the diffs provided as being anything more than insignificant vandalism - not specifically infringing BLP concerns.--VS talk 22:30, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
    I bow to your judgment, but it doesn't have to be defamation for it to be protected under Lar's criteria. Vandalism that lasts also qualifies. Enigmamsg 22:35, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
    I looked at some of those edits as unproductive yet good faith edits, which is why I did not protect. Kevin (talk) 22:39, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
    [EC]I appreciate your comments Enigma - I had a bit of trouble with this one for that reason. We shouldn't simply be doing what RFPP does elsewhere ... so I will open up a discussion point at the talk page for Lar and others to comment on.--VS talk 22:42, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
  4. Chad Ocho Cinco - Just off yet another semi-protection. Constantly reverting the name vandalism makes my head hurt even worse than it already does. Enigma 06:50, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
    Done. Plenty of BLP violations in the history as well as simple vandalism. Kevin (talk) 01:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
    Unprotected after it was pointed out that the BLP issues were prior to a recent protection. Kevin (talk) 05:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
  5. Robert Carlyle
    a. 2 months, according to evidence posted on talk page.
    b. 5 minutes.
    c. 13 minutes.

    2 of these diffs are 2 years old, and I see few recent issues. Kevin (talk) 06:12, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  6. LeBron James - [93], [94]. Borderline. Listing because vandalism is now picking up, due to the playoffs. Enigmamsg 04:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
    The most recent protection expired April 25, with little activity since. Kevin (talk) 06:12, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
    Looks like more than enough. Enigmamsg 06:45, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
    Appears to have been given a month protection by someone who I don't think participates here... let it ride and monitor what happens, would be my thinking. ++Lar: t/c 19:18, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
  7. Rick James - Excessive amount of vandalism from IPs. 13 minutes. Three protections in 2009 alone, the latest from Lar. Enigmamsg 16:39, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    Enigmaman, I hate to be the one to break this news to you... sigh. You might want to sit down for this. >_> Hmm, how to say this... I guess there's just one way, and that's just to say it: Rick James has died, Enigmaman. I know, I know... <_< I'm sorry. لennavecia 17:25, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    :( noooooooooo Enigmamsg 17:55, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    So that's a reject? BLP policy includes the recently deceased but I don't know how recent, or if this process should mirror that or ? (talk page please...) ++Lar: t/c 21:54, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
  8. Robert Lindsay (actor) - 26 minute vandalism, 22 minute vandalism. Enigmamsg 20:08, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    That second one strikes me as someone creating a page in the wrong place rather than vandalism... ++Lar: t/c 21:59, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    I had similar thoughts. Alternatively it is very obscure vandalism.--VS talk 23:12, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    Who creates a new article by removing the text of a current article? That's odd. Enigmamsg 23:44, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
    Someone who really doesn't understand how things work. Or a vandal. Could be either. Do you have another qualifying diff? ++Lar: t/c 04:59, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
    No, it'll have to stay rejected. The only other clear reverts were of arguably good faith edits, so I agree with your decision. Enigmamsg 16:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
  9. Murder of Gwen Araujo. I am fully aware that this is a controversial nomination,due to the article being about somebody who has been dead for seven years. Nevertheless, I feel WP:BLP applies. Refering to somebody murdered as "it" [95], [96], both for more than five minutes, I would argue is seriously hurtful and defamatory to friends and family of the deceased. And these two are just in the last day. So the question is, does BLP exist just to protect the living, or the family and friends of the fairly recently murdered too? Dendlai (talk) 11:50, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
    Sorry, but since this isn't a BLP, the normal page protection standards apply. –Juliancolton | Talk 13:29, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
