MIMI a slang derivitive of the Spanish verb DORMIR. The term is derived from the diminutive state of the verb DORMIR. Many terms or words in Latin America are commonly used in a diminutive fashion. For example, "casa" becomes "casita". These diminutive words and references are a common manner of speaking and verb usage in Latin America.

Mimi is considered a term of endearment. Mimi is used in some parts of Mexico by parents and children to refer to sleep or the act of going to sleep. [Example: Ya me voy a la mimi. [I am going to sleep now].
