Australoxylon is a form genus of glossopterid fossil wood, including massive tree trunks. It occurs throughout the Permian.[2]
Description
[edit]Australoxylon is similar in structure to the wood found in moddern conifers,[3] and is characterized by clustered pits.
Systematics
[edit]In the past, Australoxylon was included in the wastebasket taxon Dadoxylon. However, instead of belonging to the conifer family Araucariaceae, Australoxylon is instead associated with Glossopteris.

Distribution
[edit]It has been found in many parts of the Southern Hemisphere, including southern Africa, the Middle East, India and Antarctica.
