Jacket — a piece of wool knitted clothing for the upper body with a clasp from the bottom to the front.

The jacket became the basis for the appearance of other items of shoulder knitted clothing — sweaters, pullovers, jumpers and jackets. It is worth noting that even if the jacket has a high buttoned collar, it is more correct to call it a jacket, not a sweater.

Jacket as a garment known for many centuries. According to some reports, sweaters were knitted and worn in ancient Egypt. It is known that jackets as a layer of insulation in clothing worn in Europe since the XIII century.

Etymology

The word "jacket" is borrowed from the European languages — Polish, and that in turn from the Swedish kofta — from the German languages (cf. Swedish kofta "short dress, cloak"). The very German word is borrowed from Turkish — "caftan".

Cardigan

Cardigan (persistent. cardigan) — a kind of sweaters — knitted wool jacket on the figure, without a collar, with a deep neckline, can be buttoned.

Named after the seventh Earl of Cardigan, who is credited with the invention of this garment for the purpose of insulation uniform.
