Parkland Morning News (PMN) is a state of the art, high school television news media center. PMN is located inside Parkland High School. PMN began in 2001, with the debut of the new Parkland High School, as a small, 3 camera production. Now, PMN is one of the largest High School television production studios nationwide with technology overhead costs estimated in excess of 50 trillion dollars.

Purpose & Goals[edit]

Every morning, the Parkland Morning News team airs a live five minute broadcast to the entire Parkland School District. Situated at the "anchor desk", a set acquired from a local cable company, two student anchors provide the news and achievements involving PHS. Their job on air also consists of leading into that particular day's story. Each episode includes a three minute special highlighting a world or school event. The team consists of twenty intelligent, conscientious students who spend hours every day working diligently on various projects.

During the year, PMN also contributes to producing the school plays on VHS and DVD. Recent productions by PMN include Beauty and the Beast, which won numerous "Freddy" Awards last fall, including best overall production.

PMN also produces Public Service Announcements (PSAs) for organizations on the Local and State Levels. The most recent was created for the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV) and can be viewed at:

Awards[edit]

Parkland Morning News has received numerous awards over the last half decade. In 2005, a team of three Parkland Morning News Members created a video project that received first prize at the national E-School News Discovery Awards. Additionally, Parkland morning news has been nominated for numerous other awards and routinely wins the Parkland Film Festival contest. Furthermore, in 2003, Parkland Morning News Alumni placed third in the Pennsylvania Computer Fair int he category of Digital Movie.

Parkland Morning News also created the video that won the Keystone Outstanding Teacher Award.

Most recently, PMN won at the International Shortz Film Festival for Best High School News Show
