User:Kernoweger/Revival of the Cornish language

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The revival of the Cornish language is an ongoing process in Cornwall and areas of the Cornish diaspora to reintroduce the Cornish language as a community language. Cornish became an extinct language in the late 18th century, when it was replaced by the English language as Cornwall's native tongue. The revival of the language started in 1904 when Henry Jenner published his Handbook of the Cornish Language, and continues to this day, with an estimated 3,500 people able to make conversation in the language, around 300 fluently, and a small number of native speakers brought up with the language.
