[edit]HWY 92 Project: Fall 2009; An area of interest for the City of Douglasville Development Authority is the reconstruction and widening of Highway 92, which runs through the heart of the city. This major roadway reconstruction will have a significant impact on the City and it's ability to promote economic development.1
The Job Market: According to the Douglas County newspaper, "The Douglasville Development Authority (DDA) is working with two existing industries to add about 20 news jobs in the next 12 months, according to Jamie Gilbert, DDA executive director." 2
Increasing Education: A City development Authority must maintain its focus on education in order successfully promote the labor force. The following is a quote from Douglasville Mayor Mickey Thompson:
“The expansion of higher education institutions to Douglasville is a major priority for the city. Georgia Highlands College and University of West Georgia’s move to Douglasville provides an excellent opportunity for our residents to further their skills and education. In a tough economy this gives us a competitive advantage by providing additional programs that will further advance our workforce.” 3
