By their nature Gnomish edits are so numerous that in any competition they need to be measured in an automated way. The wiki cup 2009 simply gave mainspace edits 0.1 points and mainspace minor edits 0.01 points; this was practical, but gave an order of magnitude difference to something that on the margin could be quite a subtle difference. I would suggest that an automated wikignome competition or competitions measure things like:
- Article templates removed through de-orphanning, wikifying etc.
- Categorizing of uncategorised articles.
- Adding of pictures to articles without images (we have 5 million images on commons and yet we have many articles without images).
- Adding alt text and or captions to images in articles that lack them.
- wikifying articles by adding headings.
