I have been doing a lot of reading and research on the history of astronomy recently, read about this site on slashdot, and decided that this seems like a very worthwhile site. I will contribute to history of astronomy (and other astronomical topics) as it seems not only inherently worthwhile, but should influence my research in a beneficial way as well.

Thanks for the corrections to the history of astronomy. I hope you continue to contribute to it. I haven't taken the time yet.

I intend to. I will probably go forward in time mostly, with some detours for ancient American stuff and perhaps megalithic astronomy (or lack thereof, I am skeptical of many of e.g. Thom's claims)

Have you read "The Sleepwalkers" by Arthur Koestler? It presents a very interesting view unfortunately only up to Newton.

No, I haven't, I'll check it out next time I am in the book store.
