Antony Unwin

Antony Unwin is a German statistics professor, software developer, and author. Unwin works at the University of Augsburg in Germany, where he is recognized for being the first computer-oriented statistics professor. He is known for his work with R and his contribution of R packages.

Work

Unwin is an author of numerous books and articles on data visualization. He has worked with Andrew Gelman, who is the applied statistics director at Columbia University. In January 2020, Unwin spoke out against the latest AIGA Design Census, saying, "it’s very disappointing. I would expect something better from such an august body." Unwin was the PhD advisor for Heike Hofmann, who is another statistician known for her work on data visualization.

Recognition

Unwin was elected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2007.
