Atef Kahlaoui, known as Alkpote (first as Al K-Pote), is a French rapper, born on February 3, 1981 in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

He found his stage name (a pun in the form of a suitcase word mixing the name of Al Capone and the word condom in french) at the age of 15, and joined the group Unité 2 Feu in 1998, with whom he published a first album entitled Haine, Misère Et Crasse. He gradually separated himself from his group in order to pursue a solo career. In November 2007, Alkpote released the album Sucez-moi avant L'album.

During his career, Alkpote was often criticized for his many references to pornography in his texts. This is how he explains it: "I am often told that I am a pornographer, that's true. But I don't feel more pornocrat than Doc Gynéco, Alizée or Mylène Farmer. We are artists first and foremost. What feeds me is my passion for rhyme, not porn. All the hard words I use in my lyrics are just part of my character”.

Biography[edit]

Youth and beginnings[edit]

Of Tunisian origin, Atef Kahlaoui was born in Paris. After a hectic schooling, a guidance counsellor referred him to a professional course in plumbing, like his father Salah Kahlaoui, at the Baudelaire high school in Evry but he was not interested in this training. Atef Kahlaoui's musical career began in 1995, after moving to the Pyramid district of Evry. He adopted the stage name Al K-Pote, which he "found without looking" at the age of 15. He points out that Alkpote is like "a character, a kind of double who just wanted to get out of my head. A kind of Gainsbarre”.

In 1998, at the age of 17, he became a member of the Unité 2 Feu collective with which he published his first album entitled Haine, misère et crasse, which was a success in the Île-de-France region and then in the rest of France. Little by little, he ends up abandoning his training and raping

Solo career[edit]

He joined the Néochrome label in 2006 as a solo artist. In April 2007, he published his project “Rap de banlieusard” which "honours this extraordinary artist. With worked rhymes, a fluctuating flow and a sense of lyrics inspired by the dirty streets of the city of the Pyramids, and an outdated youth. "In November 2007, Alkpote released the mixtape Sucez-moi before the album.

In 2010, the song Bande de putains, on the album Alkpote and the cream of Ile 2 France, gave rise to a conflict between Alkpote supporters and opponents who considered the title as an exaltation of the worst clichés of rap. In 2011, he made an appearance in Morsay's film La Vengeance, in which he played the hairdresser of the city where he lives. On March 19, 2012, he released his album L'Empereur contre-attaque. The album Neochrome Hall Stars Game, a collaboration with Seth Gueko and Zekwé Ramos, was released on November 26 of the same year. The rapper also announced in 2012 that he plans to stop his career, considering that he has not been sufficiently recognized for his talent. On June 3, 2013, he published his digitape entitled Mazter Chef Muzik Volume 14. In April 2014, he published his Orgasmixtape mixtape, which was followed by a second part the following year, on May 11, 2015.

In 2015, he shot the video clip of the Formula 1 song in a hotel in Courcouronnes. The clip was quickly removed from YouTube following a complaint from Accor for "damaging the brand “. In January 2016, he published a collaborative album entitled Ténébreuse Musique avec Butter Bullets. On June 24th, his album Sadisme et Perversion was released with DJ Weedim. On July 7, 2017, Alkpote released a new project, Les Marches de l'empereur, still with DJ Weedim, which also included Vald, Biffty, Iron Sy, MZ, Black-D du XV Barbar, 13 Block, Leto du PSO Thug, Niska & La B, Brigistone, Jones Cruipy, Jarod, Tino, and Cinnamon for the Pyramids remix. Between June and July 2017, he opened for Gucci Mane's concerts in France.

On April 27, 2018, his fifth album, Inferno, was released.

On December 21, 2018, Alkpote released Mariah, an EP in common with Luv Resval, a young rapper from Essonne just like him.

On October 10, 2019, the video clip of Bilal Hassani's song Monarchie Absolue was released in duet with Alkpote. Several sites like many Internet users are literally surprised so much the two artists are opposed: Bilal Hassani, a young pop singer, is openly homosexual and transvestite while Alkpote is known for his crude, even sexist and homophobic lyrics. In 2015, he told the website L'Abcdr du Son: "I am completely homophobic. I'm not Assault Sexion, man, I assume", pushing the website's editorial staff to write a statement on the interview's web page: "During this interview, Alkpote made comments in which the editorial staff of the Abcdr du Son does not recognize itself. ...] l'Abcdr du Son regrets that some of the words expressed during this interview are hurtful to individuals. The editorial staff does not want an interview to be used to reinforce certain people in ideologies that are detrimental to the freedom of being of everyone. This unexpected collaboration dates back to Bilal Hassani's victory in the Eurovision Destination 2019 show to represent France at the international Eurovision competition. Alkpote fans have posted a crazy petition for the rapper to replace Hassani. The latter then listened out of curiosity to Alkpote's songs and decided to offer him a featuring, which the "Emperor" readily accepted. In this clip, Alkpote self-mockingly plays the role of a dirty cop who exasperates his superior with his homophobia and sexism and is forced to work with the best cop in France, played by Bilal Hassani wearing a long purple wig. In an interview on the video clip posted by Bilal Hassani on Instagram, the rapper explains "Beyond the entertainment, I think it's a great way to show that the water has flowed under the bridges and that we are all evolving, like Pokémon, The Emperor is forgiver, he forgives all those who have hurt him. I'm in pain myself, you have to forgive me. Bilal Hassani tells Europe 1 that Alkpote is "a very kind and professional person" and had the audacity to accept his proposal for collaboration, where other rappers would have refused for fear of their street credibility. He then added that a series called FLICS with the two characters in the clip will be broadcast on YouTube
