History

The school was named after the famous financial businessman Clyde Boyd. Clyde served as a principal and later became a super attendant in 1939.[1] He served as superintendent for 38 years and served in the for district 42 years.[2] Yosef hadane

Demographics

Of the 1,067 students that attend Clyde Boyd, 60% receive free or reduced lunch. There is a 30% proficiency in math and 34% in reading.[3] According to NICHE best schools in 2020, Clyde Boyd ranked #311/603 in the best public middle schools in Oklahoma. Clyde Boyd ranked #344/611 in the most diverse public middle schools in Oklahoma. The student to teacher ratio is 18:1. Student ethnicity at Clyde Boyd is 69% white, 16% Native American, 9% Hispanic, 2% black, and 4% other races.[4] The teachers there make on average $46,040 a year.[5]

Classes

Clyde Boyde Middle School has had a number of classes in its past, but the current class system employs 5 core classes and 2 elective classes. Clyde Boyd Middle School offers multiple core curriculum's such as Mathematics, Science, English, Social Studies, and literature, Speech, L.A.F.S., and or basic writing

Electives

Clyde Boyde also has several ”elective classes” for the students to choose. These electives vary in their subject whilst some only optional to a certain grade. Some of them include: Focus, choir, P.E., academic competition, art, band, drama, office aid, Spanish, French, chaos, S.T.E.M, and others.[6]

Athletics

Clyde Boyde has several athletic programs available for the students. Some of the athletic activities available are football, wrestling, cheerleading, basketball, golf, tennis, and a dance & cheer program. [7]

Clubs/after school activities

Clyde Boyde has a multitude of clubs that are optional in choice. they differ in what is taught in them. They are: Bio-Chem Club-(Grades 6-8), Botball Team - (Grades 6-12), Club Create - (Grades 6-8), FCA - (Grades 6-8),Girls Who Code - (Grades 6-8), Origami Club - (Grade 6), Sandite 6th Grade Spirit Club, Sequoyah Book Club - (Grades 6-8), Technology Student Association (TSA) - (Grades 6-8). Carbon monoxide leak (2018)

On November 26, 2018, Clyde Boyd Middle School had a Carbon Monoxide leak. The leak started sometime around the morning. Between 11:15 and 12:58, five students went homesick. And between 1:15 to 1:35, seven more students got sick.[9] Around 2:27, an announcement on the intercom told all the students to "go to the new gym". Many students went to the hospital from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. "There was no evidence of the presence of carbon monoxide in the 6th Grade Center". Over 50 students were sent to nearby hospitals. The school didn't have carbon monoxide detectors at the time, which the district said "it'll resolve". The School was closed for several days while they fixed the problem. [10] The district has now installed carbon monoxide detectors.

Cellphone policy (2019-2020)

In an effort to increase “student engagement, enhance student learning, and decrease cyberbullying”; CBMS/SGC implementing a new SSPS Board of Education approved cell Phone and the Electronic Device Policy was implemented in the begin of the 2nd semester of the 2019 period.

Students are not allowed to possess cellular phones or electronic devices during school hours. Cellular phones and electronic devices are to be kept in the student’s ​locked​ lockers between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. Students may check text messages between passing periods, but phone calls, videoing, taking pictures and listening to music will not be permitted. [11][12]
