KAPOW in South Florida[edit]

KIDS AND THE POWER OF WORK, a program of the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC), is a national network of business and elementary school partnerships which introduces students to career awareness through professionally designed lessons taught by business volunteers in the classroom and visits to work sites. KAPOW in South Florida is an affiliate of the national network of partnerships developed by NCLC. Sixty elementary schools, 423 teachers and administrators and more than 400 volunteers from 90 South Florida businesses currently participate in the program, serving 6,000 students. Sixty percent of the students are minorities (primarily Hispanic and African American) who qualify for free or reduced lunch. [1]

How KAPOW Works[edit]

Teachers work side-by-side with professionals from the workplace, learning how to improve their capacity to bring workplace experiences to their lessons.

Volunteers teach a series of lessons that help students discover different jobs, the knowledge and attributes needed do those jobs, and model teamwork, presentation skills, and positive work habits.

Businesses and organizations work directly with students, teachers schools to help prepare students for the world of work. [2]
